Those are some nice looking guitars. However, I refuse to even look at any gear made in China based strictly on principle.

Do you hold this principle just for gear or do you enforce it for all products you buy?

I enforce it whenever possible. Obviously, it's impossible to walk into anybody's house without seeing something made in China. Nevertheless, all of my guitars, my amp, my pedals, my dog's bed, my shoes, and my Mustang, are made in the United States. I believe in supporting American jobs whenever possible.

How about your phone and computer and the components therein?

I hope for our own good that we move toward a more even playing field when it comes to manufacturing. I know we pay more sometimes but I love that there are the Dave Friedmans and Scott Splawns busting their ass making amps here in the U.S. (and damn fine sounding ones at that!) and my high school bud Rob Keeley making pedals. You can tell by the way this stuff sounds that they really enjoy what they do and put their heart into it. I'd rather pay more and get a great product than get a more assembly line type product. I'm not against things made in China but I'd rather support folks right her at home.

Common sense dictates that if they were made in the United States, they would have been included in the aforementioned list. Thanks for contributing to this discussion.

That's as good as you can do. Good man...

Confucius once said "Man who spends all his time yanking tremolo, ends up with a bent truss rod."

The new run of EVH Wolfgang specials are now made in china. The japan plant where the EVH Wolfgangs were made has now closed.Terrible..........

Chevy's are soon to be as well. Thanks Obama  It's a shame the cost to do business in the US and now Japan are so high that we have to ship everything to China to keep prices competitive. It's not an issue of greed on EVHs part, it's the price we pay for all of the regulations and barriers put in place by our government. And it's only going to get worse.

Obama is now responsible for companies making goods abroad

Some of you people are beyond stupid

Fear of a black planet!!

The Republican Party is now kissing Latino ass since the beat down in the election. Hilarious

After this last election, the USA will become the new USSR once Mobama finishes dismantling the US Constitution and stripping American's of their given rights. Or, the US may join the EU.

It's nice to see that people on this board treat members that they perceive as "new" like shit. Not sure why I decided to come back here.

...do you think the wheels on your car are important for your safety? Surely you wouldn't trust these to the chinese manufacturer's right? If you own an american made car or truck (especially a GM vehicle), there about an 80% chance that your wheels were made in China. I just got back from there. Trust me, the attention to detail and technology coming out of China is equal to, if not better than our american products.

LOL! I love the 4 balls one. :)

I remember reading an EVH interview article in a guitar magazine some time ago in the 90's where EVH stated his reason for leaving Peavey was when he found out when his sponsored products were being built in another country as rational for changing manufacturers of his guitars. Then, came out the Mexico built EVH 4x12... If you take him at his word (which is probably a stretch and far cry given history), even he has abandoned the Made in USA principle. Not interested, nor was I interested in those guitars.

Oh please. Talk about a martyr syndrome. If that's being treated "like shit" than you've lead an extremely sheltered life. I didn't even realize you only had eight posts, but now that I look at them, the overwhelming majority are related to off topics where you either comment on pot legalization, the fiscal cliff, or King Crimson. Never mind the ridiculously obvious troll question that you posed in a mind-numbingly stupid attempt to make me look like a hypocrite for using MIC devices to access and participate in this forum. So excuse me for continuing to not take you seriously.

I know this thread is a couple years old, but saw it and had to reply. I actually bought one of the MIC EVH specials and could not be more happy with it. The parts are exactly the same as the US model except the 2ply rather than the 5 ply binding (who cares) and the MIC are flat top where the USA models are arched top. I actually prefer the flat top because the EB Music Man (which I've ALWAYS wanted one) are all flat top. The same compound radius quarter-sawn birdseye maple neck is used (my bird's eye is a beautiful pattern) the same stainless steel (NOT NICKEL!!!) vintage style frets are used, all the same electronics and event the damned square plate jack and the screws used to hold the jack are exactly the same as the US model. After having the guitar professionally set-up, its the best playing guitar I've ever owned - and I've owned a ton of guitars over the years) and the tech that I go to loves it (a true professional tech who used to be the guitar tech for matchbox 20 during their hay-day). I would NOT buy one of the new specials whatsoever, but if you ever happen to run across a MIC EVH Wolfgang, do yourself a favor and pick it up. Remember, the set-up is the key. The tremolo must lay flat against the body to keep proper intonation and that warm tone and sustain. I've seen videos posting the difference in sound between the USA standard and the MIC and the tone wasn't as warm, but if you run across those videos, if you notice very carefully the bridge is NOT set flat against the body for whatever reason, which means it wasn't setup correctly, and that small detail is crucial in the design of the EVH. I've played the MIA standard at a shop nearby and could not tell any difference in sound and tone (except I can't stand the arched top). Stay away from the new MIM and MII models though - not the same beast at all. Anyone who blew an extra grand to have the arched-top model may have a feeling of sour grapes or something, but I can attest as a fact that the MIC's are high quality guitars.

I have both and American and Japanese special. Necks are completely different on these, the American one seems to be build like a tank, the neck joint is nice and tight with no gaps, also the MIJ special's every screw and bolt seems to have a light coat of oxidation on it, and i mean EVERY bolt and screw (the guitar sits in a case all the time and I dont play out with it! Japanese one is nice but not as nice as the MIA one, its hard to explain.

I don't have an MIJ, so can't speak to their quality at all. I know my MIC has absolutely no issues, and while my time with the MIA standard was limited, I made it a point to look for differences in build and quality (I know my MIC like the back of my hand) and aside from the arched top there was no difference. The MIC I have even has the low/no friction pots which the MIA has as well and I know the MII and MIM even skimped on those. Sorry, sounds like you've had some bad luck with your MIJ. Out of curiosity, does your MIJ have the birdseye maple neck and low frictions pots as well?

yea the MIJ has birdseye and low friction pots.. but like I said neck is completely different on the MIA plus the MIA has a maple cap and the MIC and MIJ ones are veneer. MIJ has a finish on the fret board and MIA doesn't. Other than that the electonics are the same and so is the floyd. BUT Iv played a bunch of theses as well and the MIA is way different..
