No more EHX Russian tubes in 2022

Barriers to entry too great, regulations. I spent some time looking into this a couple years ago with the thought of creating tube company in the US. The regulations make it simply undoable, which I believe is why they’re made in China, Russia and Slovakia. But I didn’t get too deep before giving up, maybe there is a way with some deep pockets and could afford to lose money for a while.
I’ve heard of a few trying to copy the process and the challenge beyond materials is improving yield enough to be profitable. It’s a savagely complex and cut throat business model that really would require deep pockets for quite a long time.

Sucks because I’ve played Russian brands for decades. Nothing sounds as good to my ears.

I stocked up on 8 sovteks and 8 Chinese before the price hike. Just bought 8 more sovtek pre’s after the price hike. Why? Because once supplies are gone, they are gone. That’s it.

Since preamp tubes tend to last about 5 years, I’m good now. Power tube wise I should be able to wade the waters and substitute for JJ or similar without losing the desire to play.
I’m same way . Always love Russian tubes of m everything

IOW the free market.

Well fuck me sideways!

Imma order 2 quads of EH 34s NOW

I wish that too. But to be honest, I don't think it's going to happen. Unfortunately.
Hell they want to get rid of gasoline no less all the chemicals used to make tubes. That shits been over for decades. You younger are in for fucked up future im afraid, Sorry I didnt do it :m9:

DC sanctions on Russia will do nothing much to hurt them. It’s we the people that suffer. Just wait till the 600,000 barrels of oil they just stopped buying hits our pocketbooks. For those unaware our own administration admitted there were illegal bio weapons facilities over there that were taken out the first day. I could go on about how this country wouldn’t be here today as they supported the USA from as far back as the Spanish war but if you want educated go read a book. If you ant narratives watch the Tel A Vision. There’s a reason they call it programming.

But I digress. Wait and see what happens when China meets Taiwan. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail because we need adults in DC. Not the clown show.

I hate to say it but I think we’ve got much bigger issues ahead of us. Guess who makes the fertilizer we use and the additives that go in those diesel. Trucks that deliver our food etc.

Shits being held together with duct take and bailing wire. Sadly we sent all our manufacturing overseas years ago.

Maybe some of you remember what happened when Aspen Pittman tried to make tubes in the USA. They bought all the old GE machines and completely failed at making them. The machines were sent to China.
It takes more than money and the machines to make them. You need people that can actually do the work.
All the old timers that knew how to do it died a long time ago. The few here that do know how to do it are not going to be cheap.
Would you pay $300 for a tube ?

You’re already too late. The market has already been shaken of tubes in demand as of today, or shops are shifting their inventories to private/local only to keep from going out of business completely.

It’s a horrible time to have a mass collection of tube amps and IMHO even harder to now need to sell an amplifier when the future of providing tubes for them is now somewhat in question.

My fear is that tubes shoot up to $300 a tube, or tube amps become scrap overnight.

I remember this story and that is the real challenge - getting yield high enough to turn a profit. It’s really hard to make tubes and as much art as it is electrical knowledge. It does take talent.

I find it shocking Russia can single handedly shut down the entire music industry overnight but here we are. I’m hoping EHX will try to bring their factories overseas back to domestic markets even if it means prices won’t go back to what they were before. Not having them at all is not good.

If I were a gigging musician I'd be much more worried. Luckily all my amps have new tubes. I play maybe 15 minutes a couple times a week. I also have a small stash of power and preamp tubes so I should be good to go. Another thing is most of my amps just sit and don't even get turned on. Tumultuous times to be a tube amp owner. If you are just figuring out you need to stock up on tubes you better have deep pockets.

your the only other person that is aware of the fertilizer and additives......mass starvation is possible in less stable regions....

I assume you guys are talking about the urea-based stuff.

We had a shortage of it for a couple o' months ending a few weeks ago. They jacked up the price due to the shortage and then when stocks went back to normal they left the price at the new high. The additional cost of running trucks has already seen prices begin to climb...

Curious to anybody's thoughts on the china el34's brown base single getter that Bugera and others have relabeled?? I'm not a snob but nice to have some quads in the dust bin just in case.
