Not diggin' the SLO....

the SLO seemed to need power tube interaction.
i could see chucking a hotplate at it and taking the line out of the HP into a gforce for some w/d/w tone.

The slave out on it sounds great...

But yeah, it sounds better at '5' then it does at '2'...

And it sounds better at any volume with nothing in the loop.....the search continues...

SLO = Cold, Bright, Harsh, Stiff

funny how many players find them warm, creamy, rich and elastic. In good hands and at some decent voulme the SLO is very hard to beat.

Play it with your band, you'll understand quickly what the fuss is all about. Then have the loop modded.
What you can do in the meantime : use the crunch setting of the first channel with your guitar volume down for cleans, up for crunch/mid-gain, kick a booster pedal for heavy rythm. Then use the lead channel for leads.

So if you don't like the SLO you must have crummy hands and ears? How many of the SLO players from the elitist list are still playing them?

Eddie-No
Warren-No
Clapton-No
Matthias Jabs-No
Neal Schon-No

Im not trying to be offensive or stir up a bees nest in my response, but that last comment could be taken offensively.

In my opinion Soldano's are extremely high quality. However, I also think that he got the company where it is today and was 20 years ago based on the fact that at the time he started the company there were only a handful of companies building high quality modded Plexi/JMP based high gain Master Volume amps. As far as high quality consumer attainable high gain stuff in the mid/late 80's you had Boogie,Metaltronix, Soldano, and possibly a handful of smaller builders doing things. If you were lucky enough to get your Marshall tweaked by someone for more gain or an effects loop you were pretty fortunate as most people didnt have the opportunity for that...especially if you didnt live on the coasts. He capitalized on that and made a high quality piece of equipment.

All Im saying is it's different strokes for different folks. Some dont care for the SLO and you may hate my Cornford...you may hate my 76 JMP....bottom line, we all know what we want to hear and some things will deliver more of that to our individual tastes than others...not better..not worse..just different.

That's freakin awesome! I saw Accept back in '85 at the Kabuki Theater in San Francisco and they sounded pretty devastating. Massive!

The Fender Matthias mentions is the Pro Sonic? I never heard anything about them.

I think Scorpions have been using Engls for quite awhile now. At least I know they were using them on the Moment Of Glory Orchestra album back in 2000.
