Kind of a Pantera, Zack Wylde meets Skynard type of feel with a little 80's rock thrown in.

That's a great description if you just replace "80's" with "70s". I'm not hearing the 80s thing here, I hear much more of a 70s hard rock vibe with updated tones...

I really like it. That's pretty close to the stuff I usually write. However, I'm not a big fan of the vocals. Not that he can't sing...........but I guess the vocals are a bit too "polite" for that style of music IMO. Give him some whiskey and a carton of cigs :D

I'm surprised nobody hit that wanker in front on the head. So which of these guys are you?

The final versions of our songs are done and we're gearing up now to place the bulk order. We expect the completed CDs (with packaging) to be available by the end of October. The band is Bad Monkey and the CD will be jokingly titled "Year of the Monkey."

But anyway, I wanted to share the opening track with you guys to see if you dig it. :)

Chris

Sounds very fat Chris, I love the tones and I for one like how drum and bass sound. Good stuff now post some more.

kinda like when I post my gig pics lately.

Hey, I like those pics! But if you wouldn't mind having Lauren, Stacey, Joanna or whoever is taking the pics that night get Timbo a few more gratuitous babe shots from the dance floor I would muchos appreciate it! :D

Agreed.

Sounds great Chris!

Everything came out really well, good work... Though I did want to hear the lead stretch out more

come on people. im not trying to tell you how to write a song. im just saying your form of "rocker" music is boring to me. I do not like to listen to it. that simple. I like to listen to stuff that has a unique feel to it and doesnt sound like every other band in the genre, thats just me. I never said I was better than anyone and I think a lot of players on this forum are awesome and far better than me. you asked for something of mine so i showed you the youtube video.

im just giving my opinion, the music doesnt do anything for me. I am not saying your stuff does not have emotion in it, and uninspired isnt the right word i should have used. it just sounds like so many other bands ive heard before, there is nothing that sticks out to me as unique.

and for me having no emotion in my playing, wtf. all music is a form of personal expression. dont use the shred has no emotion crap, that is ignorant. you might not be in to what i played in that video, but to say no emotion was being expressed is stupid.

that crap about hitting the wanker on the head and all that- they asked me to come out there and do a long solo on some of the songs they played, and i told them let me know when you want me to stop, and they did. they wanted me to do crazy stuff.

if you are getting offended by a 19 year old kid on an internet forum who doesnt like your music, hold on to your butts.

Chris -
I get a lot of newer Ozzy (w/Zakk) out of the tune. A lot of what I point out is personal preference. It's a very cool tune and the guitar tones mix well. I won't speak about the bass and drums because I'm listening on laptop speakers...

The main riff and the verses work very well - plenty of space to hear what is being said. Effective vocal doubling when you guys do it.

Gang vocals during the chorus - something just doesn't sound quite right - its almost like one of the voices is way sharp and throwing it out of wack.

Breakdown - cool touch - takes the song in an interesting direction

Solo @ ~3:40 - very Dimartini-esque. I almost don't think it quite fits with what I was expecting for the song. Adding a new rhythm part at that point in the song was a cool twist, but made the transition back to the outro chorus a little wierd.

No, just found the time to listen to it.

Very cool Chris. I like it a lot. Looking forward to hearing more.

I'm not into drop tuned heavy stuff but I think the lead vocals came across very well as well as the talent behind all the instruments being played. As far as the content of the lyrics and strong structure I'm not so sure. I don't feel real qualified to give my opinion. It's just that aside from the quality playing, the heavy style just isn't my bag. I started playing classical at 8, melodic and hard rock in my teens and 20's and now at 38 I'm playing classic and modern rock covers in a gigging trio. What I do know is that for a bands success here in Nashville the genre that seems to go over well here of course as a given is country music either covers or originals. (Well, they call it country, but it's nuthin more southern rock with violins and steel guitars these days...HA!) I'd say next is top 40 or classic rock cover bands. There is some heavy metal around here but with very few venues to play.

I guess the most important question to ask is what does your audience at the gigs want to hear? Your originals? Their favorite cover music? A balance of both? Are they acustomed to hearing metal and heavier rock? Or more of that 80's type melodic rock? I'd say if you've got plenty of venues around that will cater towards your original style and the people out there are diggin it, paying to see you and yelling out for your originals I say continue on and go for it!

You can argue that all music is a form of personal expression, but that doesn't mean it has "emotion." I think you play pretty good for 2 years experience. I think you probably spend more time trying to play fast than anything else though right? I mean not that you play that fast, but that seems where you try to focus. I think you could spend some time learning some timing and bending/shaking notes. FWIW you have more chops than I did after 2 years of playing, so I'm not trying to be a jerk here. Your playing did sound a little flat though. JMO. I'm not trying to jump on Chris' bandwagon either. I've known him on forums for years and I don't always agree with him. I'm just sayin'.........

I have to be honest, I can't tell shit from that video except that those kids running around in front seem to be having a blast.

In all seriousness, could you name some of these bands, 'cause in just about every genre of music there is a lot of commonality between the bands musically. I'm interested in who you think is truly unique in a particular genre of music you like.

BTW, it is fine not to like someone's music, but to post that clip of yourself doing standard wanking and talking all about uniqueness seems a little strange, ya know?

Thanks for the feedback! Ya know, I almost didn't even want to do a lead at the end of that song. This is the second time I've heard that my style of playing doesn't really fit right there and I kinda agree.

The rest of the song is based on raunchy/abrubt guitar lines. That solo with the smooth tone on the neck pickup and the legato runs doesn't quite fit. The alternative is to leave it there, and after a couple hundred spins, it will be natural!

LOL! Yeah, it'll fit perfectly after listening to it over and over. he he... That's just the way I play, ya know? I should've left it off.

Also, I'm surprised there aren't more comments about how this "I" song changes directions a few times. I think that's cool. This is the very first song we wrote together as a band.

I threw a comment about that in there. Coming up with good bridges and twists is challenging (but can really make a song). I do think it works best when you can come back to a main theme to end the song - in your case a partial chorus.
