I watched a lot of the Montreal/Washington series and Ovechkin doesn't setup plays for his other team mates, he just tries to do it all himself and fails.
The lone wolf style does not work in hockey...teams win games.

Yeah it was awesome watching him flit around and steal passes intended for his teammates on the power plays in game 7

Plus he's an asshole. Sidney Crosby is nothing but class. You'll never see him doing some absurd Chad Ochocinco-esque taunt or spray snow on a little kid.

I usually don't get into these debates but I can't let this one go. If I had a dollar for every time Crosby came late into a fight and punched somebody in the back of the head, I'd have... well, about $6. It's happened more than once, and one time is too many IMO. There is nothing wrong with not fighting, but doing dirty shit like that is cowerdly. I'm surprised he' snot FRENCH Canadian. He does dirty shit all the time. During the Gold Medal game in the Olympics, he got knocked down in front of the US goal and wrapped his legs around the defenseman standing in front of him. He doesn't get penalties called on him and the refs protect him because he's "The Next One"

with that said, he is an unbelievable talent. some of the things he does just blows my mind, and sometimes it's like he's not even trying. the same thing could be said about Ovi. both great players and I would have LOVED to see the Caps vs. Pens in the last round before the cup.

Ovechkin will be a better GOLF player tho
No, I'm sure Crosby can beat him at that too.

What's amazing about Crosby is that he is constantly trying to improve his game. Even after the winning the cup he spent the summer working on his shot and shootouts. This year he wins the Rocket Richard and he was unreal in shootouts this year. However this season ends up I guarantee he will work over the summer and be a better player next year.

I wish I had the link, but I remember reading a quote from Mario Lemieux where he said that if he had Crosby's work ethic he would have broken all of Gretzky's records.

Just like my kid...

I agree with the predictions except for the SJ/Det series. If Detroit plays like they did in game 7 they will dominate. Detroit kinda reminds me of Tiger. They only win when they want to. I mean you can't tell me they didn't look impressive. Pavel...can you say thief! He had like 2 times the amount of steals than the guy in second! Now thats defense from an offensive mined guy!

If you go by the youtube highlights I can see how you would think that. And he's had a few incidents that I'm sure he would like to take back. Who hasn't? Frustration gets the better of him sometimes like it does anybody. But unlike AO, he doesn't hit with the intent to injure and he doesn't showboat. And by all accounts he's a good guy and a good teammate and captain. It says something that guys like Guerin, Gary Roberts, Ty Conklin etc. respect him as a captain...older, veteran guys. And to say the refs protect him is laughable. Like most star players who actually skate, if the refs called every penalty he legitimately drew, nearly every game would be a 60-min PP. He gets hooked, held, and slashed pretty much constantly. Since he's able to play through it, a lot of the calls don't get called. In all fairness, AO is similar in that regard. Guys cross the line trying to stop him, but since they usually don't actually stop him, a penalty doesn't get called. Whereas a guy who can't fight through the hold, for example, would draw the penalty.

lol youtube highlights. I'm going by games I've seen beginning to end. The very next sentence you typed was "And he's had a few incidents that I'm sure he would like to take back. so I'm guessing you agree with me.

I also never said anything about Ovi not getting calls for charging or boarding because I think he gets away with a lot too because of his stature as a player. Hell, even the guy who call the games mention it, and if your going by players like Gary Roberts, who is also one of the dirtiest players I have seen play. I'm not defending Ovi at all, I'm saying that the previous quote I had addressed is that Crosby is not, "nothing but class" .

Find me one hockey player in the NHL who doesn't do ticky-tack little stuff like give someone a fash wash with their glove or get into scrums around the net like that. Ovechkin is a dirty player. He goes for huge hits and tries to injure people. He's been suspended multiple times for shit like that and Crosby never has. Remember last year against the Pens when he stuck his knee out on Gonchar and took him out for weeks. What a joke. Crosby plays the game with respect. I've watched 99% of the games Sid has played in his NHL career and the refs do not try to protect him. He draws penalties because he's better than everyone else on the ice and that's all other players can do to try and stop him. Every superstar player is gonna get a call here and there in all sports and the guys who are known for being fighters or grit players like Matt Cooke or Jarko Ruutu are more likely to get penalties called on them.

Tired of the argument. Once and for all, Crosby is better than Ovechkin. Ovi can put up some numbers but Crosby is a winner. Ovi disappears when the game is on the line.

Crosby = :thumbsup:

I don't know what you're talking about but Ovechkin is obviously better due to the mere fact that his/her last name is easily pronounced. You just cannot beat that.

If you've watched 99% of Crosby's games and you think he just gives the ol' "fan wash", then you don't watch very closely. He's come into fights late and punched, yes punched in the back of the head, not rub his glove in the face of the of a member of the opposite team while they are in a scrum with one of his team mates. That's fucked up, plain and simple. I love a physical game, I've played many a game where I have to dig the puck out of a corner and someone comes by and jabs me with the butt of his stick between where my chest pad isn't covering. I am an (unfortunetly for the last decade or so) Islanders fan (As well as a Pens fan since Trottier flew the coup). Now, back when we were any good, we played pretty dirty as well. Even our goalie was a dirty fuck. Denis Potvin was a dick. Crosby is nothing like those guys, but he has done some dirty shit, and saying that he is nothing but class, is bullshit.

tim waters took a puck in the mouth in the 93' finals played the rest of the game got a root canal the next day and played the next day. you'll never see that again. broin pulls and concusssions, a different game indeed.

In the corners, around the net. And Ovechkin doesn't do that. But he gets too excited about the big hit sometimes and does things like stick his knee out or catch a guy from behind because he wants that hit so bad. He's more stupid than he is dirty. :D

And yeah, those are the youtube highlights I was talking about. It's like finding the one video where Ovechkin actually backchecked and then pretending like he does it all the time.

I was waiting for Jakem to chime in. Notice none of his posts are arguing the fact that Sid is better than Ovechkin. You posted a couple videos and some lame photoshopped pictures instead of just admitting Crosby is better. I could post a bunch of Ovechkin's dirty hits and douchebag antics, but there's no point. Everyone knows what he is.

I was just answering your "Crosby's nothing but class" comment.

Alexander is better but he should play more for the team. I can't watch the games but it fucking sucks if he repeatedly interrupted passes which were meant for his teammates.

Hockey is one of the most violent sports. Every player, no matter how classy, is going to get upset and take a cheap shot here and there. Crosby is not known as a dirty player by anyone and that's not his game at all. And let's not forget, he's still a kid. He shows incredible maturity for his age and the insane amount of success he's had. He's the face of the NHL and the best player in the world. I'm just glad I get to watch him play every game.
