OT: Crosby > Ovechkin

Ovechkin is a better player offensively. Crosby is a better all-around player.

The Capitals are a pretty poorly built team.. they have 2 or 3 "dangerous" players, and the rest of the team is fairly.. well, average.

I had not watched the prior Habs - Caps games, but last night, Washington simply didn't work nearly as hard as they should have. When you have a player like Ovechkin going back into his own zone to retrieve pucks and bring them up-ice, while your D is standing around with their thumbs up their asses, you know you're in big trouble.

Caps = poorly built, apparently poorly coached.

Plus he's an asshole. Sidney Crosby is nothing but class. You'll never see him doing some absurd Chad Ochocinco-esque taunt or spray snow on a little kid.

I usually don't get into these debates but I can't let this one go. If I had a dollar for every time Crosby came late into a fight and punched somebody in the back of the head, I'd have... well, about $6. It's happened more than once, and one time is too many IMO. There is nothing wrong with not fighting, but doing dirty shit like that is cowerdly. I'm surprised he' snot FRENCH Canadian. He does dirty shit all the time. During the Gold Medal game in the Olympics, he got knocked down in front of the US goal and wrapped his legs around the defenseman standing in front of him. He doesn't get penalties called on him and the refs protect him because he's "The Next One"

with that said, he is an unbelievable talent. some of the things he does just blows my mind, and sometimes it's like he's not even trying. the same thing could be said about Ovi. both great players and I would have LOVED to see the Caps vs. Pens in the last round before the cup.

If you go by the youtube highlights I can see how you would think that. And he's had a few incidents that I'm sure he would like to take back. Who hasn't? Frustration gets the better of him sometimes like it does anybody. But unlike AO, he doesn't hit with the intent to injure and he doesn't showboat. And by all accounts he's a good guy and a good teammate and captain. It says something that guys like Guerin, Gary Roberts, Ty Conklin etc. respect him as a captain...older, veteran guys. And to say the refs protect him is laughable. Like most star players who actually skate, if the refs called every penalty he legitimately drew, nearly every game would be a 60-min PP. He gets hooked, held, and slashed pretty much constantly. Since he's able to play through it, a lot of the calls don't get called. In all fairness, AO is similar in that regard. Guys cross the line trying to stop him, but since they usually don't actually stop him, a penalty doesn't get called. Whereas a guy who can't fight through the hold, for example, would draw the penalty.

lol youtube highlights. I'm going by games I've seen beginning to end. The very next sentence you typed was "And he's had a few incidents that I'm sure he would like to take back. so I'm guessing you agree with me.

I also never said anything about Ovi not getting calls for charging or boarding because I think he gets away with a lot too because of his stature as a player. Hell, even the guy who call the games mention it, and if your going by players like Gary Roberts, who is also one of the dirtiest players I have seen play. I'm not defending Ovi at all, I'm saying that the previous quote I had addressed is that Crosby is not, "nothing but class" .

What I said is what I said - Crosby's done things he probably regrets. Like every other human. But is he a dirty player? No.

I also don't think that Ovechkin is necessarily a dirty player. He shies away from the true battles too much to be a Sean Avery kind of guy. Dirty players have to stick their nose in, usually. In the corners, around the net. And Ovechkin doesn't do that. But he gets too excited about the big hit sometimes and does things like stick his knee out or catch a guy from behind because he wants that hit so bad. He's more stupid than he is dirty. :D

Did I once say he was a dirty player? No, All I did was argue the fact that Crosby is NOT "nothing but class"

I see someone posted evidence for me too, thanks!!! :D

You said "he does dirty shit all the time." "Doing dirty shit like that..." Sorry if I jumped to conclusions...

And yeah, those are the youtube highlights I was talking about. It's like finding the one video where Ovechkin actually backchecked and then pretending like he does it all the time.

He does do dirty shit all the time, but I wouldn't call him a dirty player. Dirty players are guys like Avery who only get paid to play that way. I also was not the one posting the youtube videos but I'm glad someone did illustrating my point. I dont think I've ever seen a youtube video of the example I posted about the Olympics, but then again I never really looked it up. but no, youre right, i only watch youtube highlights and sports center and i have no idea what im talking about.

ohh and Pavel Datsuk best player in the game.

Can't spell Ovechkin without C-H-O-K-E

Can't spell Sidney Crosby without C-R-Y B-E-Y-O-N-D.

I never quite understood why people say this. He argues with the refs just as much as any other player. No more no less. If he does cry... well atleast he has the Stanley Cup to catch his tears. Ovi can cry into his jock strap because right now thats all he's got. :D

I think he is one of the 2 best players in the game.

Crosby
Datsuk

Malkin can make his way into that list if he gets more consistent.

I really like Zetterberg too.

FWIW, I wouldn't put Ovie in the top 10...he is NOT even close to a complete player and not even a great offensive player (that takes teamwork in my opinion....something I don't think he has inside him). He is a spetacular shooter. That's about it.

Maybe if you consider offense just scoring goals or taking 15 hard slap shots a game. I consider offense making plays, passing the puck, creating open space for your teammates, maintaining possession in the offensive zone, dumping and chasing the puck, etc. All things Crosby does WAY better than Ovechkin. Oh and let's not forget, who won the Rocket Richard award this year for most goals? I believe it was Sid (and Stamkos), not Ovie.
