One of my favorite amps.
Certainly one of the most underated around.
I think the Pearce gets a Jazz/fusion stigma because Holdsworth and Andy Summers used them alot but I can certainly get some over the top metal tones out of it quite easily.
As a matter of fact I use the G2r as my main backup to my Framus Cobra because they sound Very similar in the voicing and Gain.
I really like how the Lead Channel allows you to center in on the mids through a parametric control in addition to the Mid control.
If you want to hear the amp in a heavier application here's a link to my Brother's band. The Guitar player tracked in at with a pearce G2r at Zing studio's in westfield MA.

Go to MEDIA and then MP3. there's always 3 tunes in rotation up there

Isn't that considered THE boutique SS amp? Can it pull off sick Holdsworth legato stuff?

Everytime I play this amp it blows me away because it does not resemble anything SS that I've ever heard.. maybe in the tightness but it does not sound processed or harsh. It can be colder than a tube poweramp but it can be paired up w/ one quite easily is so desired.
I also like the fact that it has 3 effects loops.
1 for each channel and a Global.
Definitely alot of tone shaping options.
A downside is that it can be Noisy, like most SS amps.
A gate is definitely in order for loud volume playing.
I can not play anything like Holdsworth so I can't answer that LOL. But considering he used one for a long time I'd say the answer is definitely YES.

joel if i come up to your place this summer, i definitely wanna try that pearce...i've seen a few on e bay and thought about snagging them

Yeah man I wouldnt hesitate if the price is right. I snagged mine really cheap..
I'm actually surprised that these don't get more fanfare around these parts because they are really a jack of all trades type amp that can do clean and heavy gain equally well..
It's definitely a true "Sleeper" amp

The BEST SS amp, period!
If someone knows "how" to tweak it, it's as good
or better than most tube amps too!

Awesome machine!!!

BTW... we recorded it vs a Bogner Xtcy the other night and we could get so close it was silly considering that I paid a 14th of what an Xtcy sells for, just an incredible piec of gear!!

The ribbon inside the chassis is all you'll ever need to replace (if you have onboard fx issues) That's it! I'd use it any time instead of my Bogner or my '72 Jose Marshall 100 watt JMP and feel maybe a 10% sacrifice in "feel" and no sacrifice in tone!

Where are you located? Mind anyone else coming by and trying it out? :D I keep hearing good things about these amps and I just need to find out for myself.

I had one for a couple of years back in '90. As far as solid state high gain- it's the best I have ever heard but with todays great tube amps I would not buy another one. I had a JCM 900 Dual Reverb that I got at the same time and I always compared them. The Pearce had way more high gain but just was not as clear and nearly as dynamic as the JCM. Apples and Oranges.

Usually all you have to do is reseat the Ribbon every 7-10 years to get rid of any corrosion that may have formed on it.
No need to replace the cable all together.
I have a contact that has all the left over inventory of PEARCE after they went belly up.
I would agree with you on the Bang for the buck value of these things..Especially with the XTC comparison.
I dont even want to say what I got mine for. It was way below the goin rate but even then I almost dont want people to get into these things...

I got it from Don in New York...

Great contact to have!!
Incredible amp!

See, I feel that the Pearce holds it's own against the newer tube amps no prob.. I find it to be a very clear amp to, it all comes down to how you set the EQ.. The Mids should be cranked all the way up and set the parametric control to around 1k-2k.

Yea but I have never heard a SS that can compare to the dynamics of a tube amp. I agree that it is very clear for SS but my JCM sounded 'alive' compared to that 'dead' SS sound. I had both amps for over 2 years and tweaked them every way. SS just does not do it for me.

Wonder what Jerry P thinks of those Pearce Amps
what could be done to them to get that little extra we want without spending ton's of Money

and im still looking for one :aww:

I respectfully disagree and I'm a tube guy all the way.
My good friend has used this amp for every one of the "Q" shows and recordings(Link above) and I can tell you that when it's up loud it gives you all the color and overtones that a Tube poweramp would. You would probably only lose in the warmth department.
