Pete Thorn quick SL15 clip

I have a hard time believing the SL15 is going to be $2800.

The PT15 is $2200 with three switchable modern (read: complex) preamp channels and a reactive load + IR loader built in, and the Badger 35 and 18 are $2000 and $1,800, respectively.
Tax in my State on "$2200" bucks is almost $500. Ad shipping and Ins is close to $3K.

What don’t you like about the pickups?

They aren't objectively bad or anything, I'm sure lots of people like em - the only suhr pickup I truly like is the aldrich, and even with that pickup, for that type of pickup I prefer Wagner and Tonenerd

I'm really, really picky and OCD about pickups, and of the pickups of theirs i've played, the SSH, SSV, Thornbucker, Asato, and V60, they all strike me as very anodyne and bland for my tastes. I don't mean that to be offensive if you think they're the best in the world or something, but in almost every situation there's a duncan that costs half as much that does the same thing better IMO

Every suhr i've played was amazing to play, and uninspiring to listen to. I'm sure the audience couldn't tell the difference and/or wouldn't care.

But the way he voices his pickups just strikes me as very "inoffensive" and bland instead of picking a lane, minus the aldrich - which is a very good take on an asymmetrical wound alnico hot humbucker, I just think the SH-14, Wagner Godwood, and especially the ToneNerd Roxy do that exact thing better.

If you think they're the bees knees I don't mean to piss on your parade or anything, I just most likely don't hear things the way he does, that's all.

What I get when I read some of these comments is that people don’t know how to negotiate.

I ended up with six Suhr last year, picking up one next week as well.

Two of them I purchased new

One of those was 28% off and the other was 34% off

The other thing I get from reading the comments is, why in the hell did I read that?

cant say im hearing anything spectacular here, that fargen mini plex has always intrigued me if im gonna go the "mini" amp route, and i think you can get them with a loop

Yeah, tube amps will never die!!
What, the new 15 watt head with no channel switching, built in effects/midi or direct solutions is $2500?
Hey, hand me that FM3 will ya.
😂

I remember seeing him do a vid of the PT15IR and thinking, that was cool and then looked up the $2800 Price tag. Shit is nuts.

At least there’s decent options for a lot cheaper like the Classic 20 head or a Bassbreaker 15 head. Just need the right boost.

JS should have done what Friedman does and have high quality circuit boards and cut the price in half.

And don't forget it's being made by a company in CA, somebody has to pay for all the dumb lesbians that are running the state into the ground.

It sounds decent, nothing about that clip really blows me away.

Probably like lots of people; at the right price point, I'd definitely take a look at it. It'll probably cost almost as much as the SL67 though.

His guitars are fantastic. I'm not the biggest fan of the pickups, finishes, and price point, but there's no denying they're beautifully engineered and set up. And his headstocks beat seven shades of shit out of a Tyler uncircumsized penis headstock.
I do want to buy a used Alt T and hit it with some bass boat style metal flake refinish, because why not hahaha.

That PT15IR I have is a killer amp...yeah its for sale but that's a financial thing and nothing to do with how it performs, I'll happily keep it if I can.

Still laughing about the Tyler comment.

I hate Pete Thorn, but his amp sounds great :dunno:

That said, it's already at the highest end of what I would pay for any "lunchbox" or small iron type amp already, so if the new one is 30% more, that's kind of into the ridiculous zone IMO

It would make a lot more sense at 2500$ if it was a 50 watter with some crazy new attenuation or IR system like the PT, but from the sounds of things its just a really nice SL circuit with small bottle power glass.... which, great, but I don't understand what market theyre trying to go for

I'm not interested in buying the new lunchbox plexi but I am curious to hear what it sounds like A/B'd against the 67 and 68.

There are videos comparing full size Marshall plexis against the 20 watt Marshall plexi they came out with a few years ago, and predictably the SV20 sounds like a plexi in the highs but with the bottom dropped out, a higher low end resonant peak, all the typical stuff you'd expect from a lunchbox amp.

I bet this is similar, but the PPI master makes me wonder if lower volume settings would bring the big and small amps closer together.

At least for me, a 15 watt amp is never going to be loud enough to be heard over a punk or metal drummer, so it's only ever going to be viable as a "home practice" tool - and that means home practice dollars

It could sound exactly like a cranked super lead and it wouldn't matter to me because it would be drowned out by any legitimate drummer on earth without sound reinforcement
