When did the great Canadian James Peters hang it up??

Apparently he threw in the towel around 2021??

I had a chimera I didn't exactly mesh with at the time but his builds were awesome and the new layout he was teasing on the website was sweet looking. Seems like he never actually got around to them but the website is still up.

He used to reply to emails quickly but seems as though he has completely ridden off into the sunset.

I want to try a Gryphon & Body Hammer still. I wish I had pulled trigger on the FSM that sat in reverb for months 2-3 years ago 😒

Love James, really wish I could get him to build me a format 7....

Was hoping someone had more info on his situation or if he ever plans to take any more orders.

🙏

I heard he was calling it quits on building a few years ago. I thought he had sold the company to someone and was going to hang around for consulting to the new owners. I may be thinking of someone/something else though.

Same old site, no replies to email.

Never heard of passing the torch but it's crazy he had reasonable prices compared to these new fucks ripping off marshalls... with better build quality generally, top notch work unique designs....

And he was under appreciated for his time.

And now he's gone.... I feel like the gear community let the man down in favor of cork sniffing bullllllllshyt. Heard the lack of interest in his then newly announced line the format 7 was enough to make him hang it up. Real shame.

Wish someone could get ahold of the guy.

💯💯

Probably hard to stay afloat when today's kool kids world is modeling and computer plugins..
A real amp is harder to play and heavy to carry around.. Today's kids can't be bothered with moving shit..

That's too bad. James was a great guy to deal with. I had a Gryphon and really liked it. He had enough fans where I think he could still sell amps if he wanted to. :dunno:

If not Peters passing his business to someone, I don't know who I'm thinking of then. I do remember reading of a builder retiring and passing their stuff along to a new owner. It's going to bug me until I rememeber.

I really liked the design of the Format 7 and was going to get one a few years ago. I ended up coming across a Pro Dual Channel Halo/Vega at a good price and got that instead. It's a great amp. It may not be high gain by modern standards, but has enough for me and sounds really aggressive. Pretty much 80's thrash tones all day long.

I had several of his amps, went through the lineup as he added more gain and tighter circuits. The last one I had was a single channel FSM. Kinda wish I had kept it now. I kinda got snobbish in my collection at that point and was only keeping the best amps and trying other stuff from the new builders that were popping up. Always thought i could order/buy his next design. But the Peters amps were absolutely beautifully built on the inside. His stuff looked bulletproof AF.

I used to have his cell phone number. I can charge my old phone and get it if you want. Not sure if it’s current or not.
