Physically painful…this might ruin your day (definitely ruined mine)

The guitar moved in the case with momentum going in the direction of the headstock. Look at the smushed up fabric lining under and at the end of the headstock. It’s like headstock dug in and dragged the fabric causing it to get bunched up like that. Guitars MUST be packed to allow for zero movement.
This. I was warned at least with classical guitars how the whiplash can cause the headstocks to snap off sometimes if they’re not well packed in the case. Especially for a guitar this expensive it should’ve been packed to not allow for wiggle room

fuuudge... would be better if the guy was an ass, then at least you could bitch at someone. complaining to corporate delivery services is worthless.

Man sorry to see that. We have the same problem in the Kramer groups all the time too.

It's really simple. If the guitar can slide at all inside the case - even an inch - if the box is placed neck-down during transit it's going to break the headstock, guaranteed. Doesn't matter if you stuff the headstock with bubble wrap, the weight of the body sliding down is what breaks it. Sellers need to understand the body must be held completely secure and pack around it to prevent it from sliding to prevent breaks.

Hope it was insured...

Wow, Gibson's headstock designs keep getting worse and worse.

Look at the bright side, it's a Murphy Lab so even in that condition you can trade it in on a new car or starter home.

If the case had just a sliver of extra room above the headstock this could not happen because the body would take the force.
Then it could be dropped with the head pointing straight down and the head would never touch anything because the body next to the toggle switch would prevent any sliding.

If the guitar was a tight fit inside the case with no wiggle room, but the head was also tight (where the fabric is fucked up), then this could still happen if dropped with the head pointing straight down because there would still be shock to the head.

You need the body to be secure with no room for movement, and then you need space above the head where for good measure you would then place some bubble wrap or anything else to provide some squishy padding.

That makes me want to cry, but it also really irritates me because I’ll bet it was shipped fully tuned up. That means it was at full tension on the neck/headstock as it was being transported. Les Paul headstocks are notoriously weak. Any odd fall or hard movement even when it’s in the case can cause it to break. I speak as the owner of a Les Paul with a repaired/ broken headstock. Hope there’s a positive resolution to this. That’s a beautiful guitar.
Gibson ships them pretty much tuned up.

Man, that sucks!

Had this happen to me with a Les Paul Custom.
Opened the case and it was like a swift kick to the nuts. Head stock just split in half.
It was double boxed with padding but no protection inside the case.
Fedex still managed to bust it up somehow.

Man, I'm so sad to see that!
Probably this is not a good time at all to ship high end guitars, since it's close to the Holidays and they will be playing football with boxes, trying to get them delivered on time.

Really sucks this happened to such a cool guitar. I always request they loosen the strings our just take them off. Pack the guitar in the case with no movement at all. Looks like it can be repaired but not sure if you would want to keep it like that.

bummer man!!! any chance you get it fixed and then it’s even better than it was??

I surely wouldn't. Even if the repair was professional and structurally sound, the value just went out the window.

Ouch! That hurts to look at.

That is just awful, sorry! I hope everything works out for the best.

How TF does that even happen ?
Sorry about your shitty new guitar day! You have my fullest of sympathies! Hopefully it was shipped by a big dealer and not a private sale!:scared:

I guess you've never seen UPS/FedEx transferring boxes when a truck breaks down, they back them up to each other and then.........they literally throw the items from truck to truck......

I had a 79 Marshall 4x12 cabinet shipped to me that hit the ground so hard all four of the 12H-30 magnets were completely sheared off of the speaker frames..............All four! And this was back around 2008 when they kinda sorta cared..................:bash::cry:🤬
