Well I am really freaking out right now. I have played Marshall style amps most of my life. Had two Wizards in the last year and find they are great amps. I have had Bogner XTC Classics and 101b's and loved them as well. I traded my Wizard however for a Diezel Herbert as some of you may know. The Wizard even though it is a great amp is not filling my needs for versatility in a new music project I am currently involved in. The writing which is mine is much more modern than anything I have ever done and I needed an amp to cover this ground with a great clean sound and some really nice mid gain sounds as well.

I am hoping the Herbert will do the following:

1) Give me a great clean sound for pristine cleans with my H3000.
2) Hope Channel 2- will give me somewhat of a Plexi type tone that can be boosted
3) Hope Channel 2+ will give me the JMC800 tone that has more tonal controls
4) Hope Channel 3 will give me the modern tone and lead tone that sings

I do not hope for much do I?

I know most of you have been Diezel fans for a long time. I have for some reason never been interested in any Diezel product. Andy Wood is who first got me initially interested and my research led me to believe that the Herbert might possibly achieve my 4 goals above.

I just wanted to share this with the community as I am sitting here wondering what pluggin in tomorrow will be like. I am hoping to hear the tones I want to hear and get to pushing my material in regards to the band and recording. I also hope it is a versatile beast that can cover a lot of ground to help me achieve my musical goals and passions.

Tomorrow is going to be such a great day for you man!!!!!! I'm jealous because I remember how nervous I was waiting for my Herbert and then the happiness I fell right when I turn it on and started playing!! Cant wait to hear your review tomorrow!!

You're gonna be stoked..

There is a settings chart somewhere here if you can search it.
It'll help get you started.
I love my Herbert.

As they say it's in there. The mid cut gives you all kind of tones to play with try it in and out. I love all my amps but the herbie's are in a whole different class themselves and they remind me of that everytime I plug into them.

Enjoy

I know your feelings.......
I was on PINS AND NEEDLES....when I knew the Diezel was coming home!!
Your going to love it.
Never played the Herbert.....but I know how impressed I was when the VH4S was plugged in and dialed in proper.
Still gives me goosebumps!! ;)

Congrats my man and welcome to the Family!! ;)

Dan

Channel 1 will give you all the pristine clean tones you could ever want.

2- should give you that plexi type tone.

2+ Should also give you that 800 type tone, but look out with the gain dimed and the mid cut engaged, holy heavy metal. That is probably my favorite tone on the Herbert as it is super clear, less compression, and heavy as hell.

3 is actually a little too compressed for my taste. I'm hoping a swap to KT88's soon will help relieve a certain amount of the compression found on 3.

I hate to be a downer on the situation, but personally I don't think Diezel does the Marshall tone. True, It covers all the same gain levels but at no point do I feel it sounds anything like a Marshall. (Hence why i'm currently looking for a Marshall to accompany it). Don't get me wrong, I think you're gonna adore the herbert (as I do) but don't buy a diezel for marshall tones, they are very different amps. Good luck with it and I hope you love it!

Hey ttosh,
I´m playing an Einstein right now, but get a Herbert at the weekend.
The Einstein was the first Diezel I´ve ever played and it made me selling all my other stuff.
Now I have the chance to get a Herbert, btw I love modern metal tones and the possibility to do so much more with just one amp.
That typical Diezel roaring is heaven for me. I guess I always tried to let sound the Einstein like the Herbert... :D
Now it´s time for the real thing and sell my BBE

You are not being a downer. I figure it will have its own character and not be a Marshall. If I needed the full on perfect Marshall sound the Wizard would have stayed. I need something that is more modern sounding with a good clean sound. The Marshall vibe like plexi and JCM800 would be cool if it is in there, but if not then I like you will pick up a Marshall along the way, probably a Vintage Modern for my Marshall fix at some point.

Thanks for being honest though, I appreciate it even though it is to the point I do not take it as negative at all!!

Thanks again for all the input so far. I am excited to get the Herbert and find out what all it is capable of and what tones are in this beast.

ITS TOMORROW BABY!!!!!!!!!   :D Where's UPS!!!!! :gethim:

I was a little worried about not being able to cover songs and sound right with the Herbert but it does them fine IMO. For the plxi type tone I role the volume back on channel 2 and its in there. The thing I found with the Herbert is my over all sound changed because the Herbert is its own beast but it changed in a great way!!

Well from your latest reply it sounds like it will be perfect for you man  I'm looking at the Vintage Modern too   Let us know how it is!

I had 3 Marshalls in this past year alone. They sounded great.
I feel on my Diezel VH4 that between channel 2 and 3 I can cover everything and more that the Marshalls done yet it has the slightly 'modern' flair to it. Most metal amps when trying to do the marshall thing they fail (at least for me)
but my Diezel sounds fantastic when pulling off some Ozzy or Old Kiss Song.
I have no need for another Marshall. Again........all my opinion.
