Well. I am getting more positive feedback and higher praise than I anticipated. He started looking more boutique last night and was talking about revv and engl fireball. I directed him towards a silver jubilee. But i am wondering if maybe i should have him just get the prs. Just gotta see if he cares about a clean. He has a fender twin, so i doubt it
Jubilee 2555x and MT100 are very different tones...but both very cool and a good deal cost wise.
Tell him to buy both and he'll have a great Marshall and modern Recto-ish amp to play with.

2555x is killer. My favorite Marshall I've owned. Only issue for me and why I offed it....the mids. The mids frequency had a very narrow useable range for my taste. Between 1-2 oclock. Below that...too scooped....beyond that just got weird. In that narrow band however, it was killer. Way I ran it was very reminiscent of the many MCIIs I've owned in regards to the open massive push/punch. Different, but similar.

There's a few posts here and there, maybe on the Marshall forum? That talk about the Wizards using some of the Jubilee preamp design.
Both killer amps though...I had an 88 2554 Jubilee 1x12 combo, that had a very different midrange to it than any other Jubilee I owned...very addictive mids that were even better than what I hear from other Marshalls I'd own. I wish I would have looked at the circuit to see if anything was different from the factory. Maybe a factory 'mistake' with a different value mid pot, or tone stack...

Gary Holt's tone through his Marshall Jubilees reissues ((boosted of course) is absolutely insane.

Not sure who gave that review; but I've had 2 F Triples, 2 G Triples/Duals and the king, the Rev C. The MT is basically an F Triple already boosted; with tight lows that are huge like any Recto.
The MT is definitely NOT a refined version of a Recto, not to my ears. It IS an already boosted Recto with tighter lows.
Just as raw and unrefined as any recto, other than the C which is in a class all its own.
He tome now seems TOO tight . Like a thrash tone . Live with Creed lately I felt it had ZERO sag on his chug parts .i was used to his tone being bigger and with more rich harmonics

He's also using the Synergy SLOII and another pre; mixed with the MT. So maybe that's what is making it sound tighter. The MT is tight but like a boosted Recto, which still isn't THAT tight ie thrash tight. Like nowhere near a Hermansson tight.

Man on Higher when he was on the boat show , when he plan muted and chugged the palm notes were dead too quick . No sag or comeback from the pm notes

As a huge archon 100 fanboy....

The MT100 is my "next to buy" amp.

Seems to blend alot of what I like together.

The Archon 100 is THE most disgustingly underrated amp made. That amp will die with me. It's needs to be retubed and have new caps put in though as it's over 10 years old at this point

I guess I’ve been lucky with the two Engls I own. They are both quite old, but no issues, touch wood.

I had a similar experience. I had a guy bring over a little 80's 50 watt combo. I kinda turned my nose up at the thing. Then i plugged it into an evh 4x12 and holy fuck.

I have probably 5 solid 'gear sold' regrets; one was that very first 1988 Jubilee 2554 combo. Paid 800 for it, drove 3 hrs to meet the guy. Black tolex and all. Just a great Marshall sound with a mid response I haven't heard again in any other Marshall. Played out with it and a 1979 Marshall slant with 65s, for probably 5 years then sold it while chasing modded Marshalls. Got 1600 for it but damn if I didn't regret that almost immediately at the next gig lol.

I have a few of those. Sold for two to three times as much but not really worth it. That is why I am only getting a new piece of gear if it beats what I have. My setup is fucking doing it for me. And I have people around me letting me try the newest shit, so I can make more informed decisions. When you read people's NAD posts, they can really fuck with your mind, lol. But if you get to play the shit, it is a little more realistic.

Yep, the Honeymoon period is always a bit deceiving....gotta see if it stays longer than a couple weeks lol.

So how does this amp fare against an og 5150 iii 100 watt ?

Always heard good things about that amp. Never played a PRS anything. But why would it need new caps after 10 years?

Different sounds. The MT100 sounds more like a mix of an already boosted Recto and Uber. The EVH 5150III is more midrange heavy amp like the 6505’s. I prefer the MT100 for what it’s going for

Because I'm OCD and it's moved with me a few times. I can wait longer but there are now amp techs I trust within 2 hours and it seems they're all retiring fairly quickly.

New tubes sure but caps? I mean if it sounds good I'd leave it alone other than tubes.
