Not too boutique if possible, used in front of the amp (I'm using delay for soloing the most to hide my imperfection, "reverb" like) - I'm looking mostly for units which don't add too much noise. Currently I'm using a Digitech pedal, but the hiss (when the amp is in crunch mode) is way too annoying - and no, its not caused by the powersupply or cables, it is caused by the unit.

Up to 400ms is enough.

The TC stuff? Nova or so?

Oh, I'm using it in front of the amp - not in the loop.

Thanks.

I use a MIJ Ibanez AD-9 in front of my Superbass, doesnt add noise and souds extremely w3arm and smooth. Its really only useful for slap back but thats all I need it for. Run it after a fuzz and its like EJ bliss. :D

The Maxon reissues are awesome but they are expensive.

A Boss DD-3 sounds pretty good in front of an amp too, but its a lot colder/digital sounding compared to an analog delay.

Thanks Shea. I had a DD3 before I went rack ages ago - at that time it was the standard or so.

Do you know if those Ibanez/Maxon things have 350-400ms?

one man's cold/sterile/digital is another man's "not-shitty, not-muddy, etc"

I say DD-3

I've got a Nova coming within the next few days....can't wait to get it!!!

I think delays sound like crap in front of an amp that's running a lot of gain. For clean and mid gain they're fine. And the first batch of DD-3's were made in Japan, then when they switched them to Taiwan they used a different chip in them which supposedly didn't sound as good.

I'm going to sell some crap and try and get one as well, they look like great pedals and the Eventide is way to expensive.

Marshall Echohead.
Digital, 7 modes, true bypass. Sounds great though the effects loop. Has a second output jack that allows for a natural decay when the pedal is switched off, instead of the usual abrubt end to the effect.
Decent price too.

I used the DD3 for years, mang. In comparison to an AD-9 it does sound a bit colder and hi fi, while the maxon sounds warmer and lower fi. I wouldnt call neither muddy... Which is sort of a moot point when you run it front of an amp, because any delay will add a bit of mud if you're using too much gain. I wasnt slagging it though, I think the DD-3 is a great pedal. In an FX loop it sounds phenomenal IMO. I like it in an FX loop better than in front of an amp. I just think when you're running delay in front, analog or tape echo is where its at. :)

Olaf, the new Maxon Ad-9 has a 450ms, even more than mine!!! Its even got a tape echo simulator! I want this pedal bad:

Thanks for the ideas/comments.

Well I don't want to use it in the loop because I'm tired to move around when gigging
- two guitars
- a cab
- an amp
- pedalboard
- stands

- and a rack - iwanna get rid of it.

And I'm not a fan of 20 meter cables either (board to loop and back).
Thats the reason I'd like to have it in front, you know.

Agreed.

I thought my Ad-9 sounded pretty righteous in front of the Einstein though.

I really like the EH Stereo MM w/ Hazari and the Damage Control Timeline. Both sound really nice in front as they do a really good analog delay IMHO. With the Timeline you can even add some grit to the delays which I liked to do espcially when running in front.

Id check pawn shops and ebay for some kind of analog delay... You can always score some obscure cheap analog delay that sounds good.

Not sure if the Boss DD-20 is overkill for you, but I've been very pleased with it :). Although, I haven't used it in front of an amp only in the loop.....

Merci Ejecta and Shea.

The Replex is over 500€. Thats crazy - for a pedal . . .

Obscure sounds good to me :D

Chris: I'm replacing a Columbus, so there's enough space for lots of pedals. Thanks.

No way you'll pay that on eBay... see my previous post...
