An analog delay out front can sound cool and "retro" if you're only using small amounts of amp distortion OR running the amp totally clean. Anything more than that and I'd rather go without than to hear the horrible tone of a delay in front of a higher gain amp. YUCK!!!

But analog delays are fine in the loop even with high gain, right?

Never tried an analog delay, to be honest... But the idea sounds great for thickening solo tone in a reverb sort of way, without any A/D conversion.

i don't have a recommendation.. just an observation. i have to agree with thump about using a delay in front of the amp. i've got a really old peavey ddl3 that i hooked into a signal chain yesterday. i can't say it did much for me on the aor channel of my laney.. but on the clean/crunch channel it sounded alright. if i'm going to use the aor channel and boost for soloing i'm going to stick with plain old reverb to hide my many mistakes. :D
btw.. i've seen a ton of dmm's on pedalboards. seems to be pretty much a standard.

Two days ago I've ordered just out of curiosity two Artec pedals, an analog delay for 50 bucks and the big dot tuner (needed a pedal tuner anyway). Well, I must say that I'm impressed with chinese Quality for 50$. The delay (I'm completely unexperienced with analog stuff, been using Rocktron and TC racks since ages) is pretty cool even in front of the amp (using mostly as a reverb substitute, so short times, few repeats, low in the mix).
The pedals are true bypass (which was a must for me), the enclosure is made from steel and the internals look "good".

I've ordered today, after I gave both units a try, the chorus too. Lets see how that does its job . . .

Thanks again everybody for their input, even if the Artec stuff won't last forever I have some cool ideas now, I appreciate that. :)
