Hermanson Marshall 5 gain stage is still my number 1 amp .
Well the 6505/5150’s or stealth’s I guess fit well all the criteria you mention except what I’d consider top notch tone like some of the vintage Boogie’s you had, so I guess just depends on priorities/needs. If I was in your position I’d consider maybe a boosted Naylor, boosted ‘70’s JMP2203/4 or Cameron modWhile I agree with everything you've said here, I'm also considering the context of the live mix where MOST of the attributes we split hairs over completely disappear and you're just left with where your bottom, mids & top end sit and how much gain is on tap. I have gigged many of these amps I've had, and on stage the differences get much smaller. My guys really prefer the amps where they can hear my parts better, and yet I still want a some ass in there since we're a 3-piece and have a room to fill.
Sounds like quite a good deal!$3K cash in person.
Yea something Marshall is my thought too. Feel like a modded Marshall is what will do the trick here - GZ, Cam, maybe a Gower?Well the 6505/5150’s or stealth’s I guess fit well all the criteria you mention except what I’d consider top notch tone like some of the vintage Boogie’s you had, so I guess just depends on priorities/needs. The stuff I recommended is basically just what to me have the best high gain amps I’ve tried that aren’t Mesa/Boogie’s and not factoring in practicality. I still gotta try an MLC Silenoz, Uber Ultra, Poundcake and the new Hell Razor, but otherwise pretty much tried all the high gain amps I know of and those first 2 I have on order
But Jeremy mentioned a $2500 pricepoint somewhere in the thread, so these might be a little out of budget.Yea something Marshall is my thought too. Feel like a modded Marshall is what will do the trick here - GZ, Cam, maybe a Gower?
Cam would be my pick of those, but I still haven’t tried my GZ properly yet (just got it). The Gower’s I had (KK++ and Rockmonster) I thought were good, but just didn’t sound as good imho when AB’ed with the Cam mods I had at the timeYea something Marshall is my thought too. You got GZ? And haven’t even told me?Cam would be my pick of those, but I still haven’t tried my GZ properly yet (just got it). The Gower’s I had (KK++ and Rockmonster) I thought were good, but just didn’t sound as good imho when AB’ed with the Cam mods I had at the time
What tweak, which tweaker? What about a tweaked 1959? A touch more gain and tightness. Feel like you’d like that considering you like harmonics and clarity from my memory.
Never was a fan of the gower stuff. UK Fortin mods basically. Dudes super nice though.Cam would be my pick of those, but I still haven’t tried my GZ properly yet (just got it). There’s a guy named mark who can tweak amps and might also be a tweaker. Two birds with one stone as they say. What tweak, which tweaker?
PA builds? What are those?Hermansson. His amps DELIVER the GOODS in a serious manner. Ferocious high gain, just crushing, but they clean up great as well. His PA builds are nothing short of glorious.
His amp line will be released and it will be amazing.
Viva la Hermansson!!
I also really like some Friedman stuff.
Really good price indeed!Sounds like quite a good deal!
@SBlue also was searching for one mid 90s iirc. If you don’t give it a go, he might want it.
Todays seems to be the day of uncovering undercover NADs lolReally good price indeed!
Thanks for thinking of me. I have already found one, tho.
The thing is he likes (for now at least lol) a 6505 and that doesn't really do a scooped Metallica type sound at all unless maybe he's using an eq or something external. It's more the opposite and I always found those amps too congested for my taste (yes at loud volumes). Other than one or 2 exceptions I've had, most modded Marshall's have the mids more distant sounding than stock. Maybe he can find a way to make them work, especially if he can with a 6505. Some guys describe many Cam mods as being like a more Boogie-esque Marshall, although I never thought soJeremy will ABSOLUTELY need whatever modded Marshall, to be able to truly scoop those mids out. When I say he's not a fan of mid mids, I'm being totally serious. Like, imagine when you run a parametric through the loop to fine tune the eq...he needs to scoop like old school Metallica. Essentially, make a Marshall more like a Mesa in EQ response.
Engl has reliability issues and no customer support for the non famous. Stay away unless you can fix them yourself IMO. I don’t even want one because of reliability and parts/customer service concerns.I‘m very nicely set up with my Mesas too. The 6505+ brings a nice addition to them. Lately I went the Marshall route and a 2203 kit is waiting to be soldered together.
So maybe a 2203 boosted or with a hot mod would do the trick for you? Other high-gainers you haven’t mentioned are Diezel and Engl.
