Remembering Randy.

Diary is one of the very first songs I learned way back...the album is a must listen every month, or maybe twice a month. I still remember where I was when I first heard about the plane crash..at my grandparents house in St Paul, 9th grade.
What a horrible day.

If Randy quit after that tour as many say he had intended, and pursued classical, would the love be as deep? He died young and that always makes them more cherished.

I don’t see him as having moved the needle, that group would be Chuck Berry, Jimi, EVH, Yngwie and Satch. They create genres within rock.

According to what Rudy Sarzo wrote in his book Randy was gonna record Speak Of The Devil but under protest , one more studio album and tour then he planned on leaving the band. As quickly as bands were recording and touring in the early 80s it would’ve probably all ended towards the end of 1983

Be careful, Mr millionaire might accuse you of being inferior to himself, and that you live in your mom's basement.

Well he probably is better than me, but I moved out of my parents house 41 years ago when I was 15 years old.
I get it, just having some fun.

I myself was emancipated at 17.

I was just preemptively trying to save you the trouble ..I suppose.🤷🏻‍♂️

These are the lines he used on me a week or so ago...and I laughed.

Yeah. I remember folks wanting to being either Randy or Eddie at that time. I just started guitar in about 82ish after playing air guitar eruption or air guitar crazy train. Then real guitar and I kept trying to figure out who was easier to cop…. Neither. I moved over to Cream and Led Zeppelin. 🫤. Could be why I’m sloppy

As a young player that lived it when Randy hit, yeah he moved the needle. Alot more than Yngwie and Satch did because Randy broke the barrier beyond just guitar music and aficionados. Yngwie was getting little music played on the radio and Satch, I mean great player but really who did he influence. I like Satch but to me, he's just an amalgam and not necessarily unique of everything we've heard before as a player.

As I said in my post above, RR's impact wasn't on the level of EVH or Jimi, nobody has hit that mark but RR took all his influences and combined them into something unique which all the greats do. Then put it in the rock guitar format that had not been heard before. And for two years, he was pretty much it when it came to rock guitar. I can see why Ed was jealous because for that short period of time it was all about Randy and not Ed.

Did his death elevate him more? IMO no as he was about as celebrated as you could get at the time however it did cement it as it does many young artists/actors/sports stars etc... that are uber talented and pass early.

Ed was an inovator and took guitar to a new level. Randy was just so fluid in his playing and creative in his own way and his writing had something magical in it for me.
I don't think his death elevated him. Cripes.....he was only 25. He did 2 albums with Ozzy. Two Hella good albums that impacted the music world.
Imagine if Ed passed away after the first 2 albums? We would have missed all those albums afterwards. So just imagine how many great albums we missed from Randy.....
