Excerpt from Google......

Yes, a photo ID is required to sell on Reverb; as part of their verification process, they may ask for a government-issued photo ID like a driver's license or passport to confirm your identity, especially when you reach a certain sales volume or if required by local laws.

Key points about ID verification on Reverb:
  • Purpose: To comply with legal requirements and prevent fraudulent activity.
  • Acceptable IDs: Driver's license, passport, other government-issued photo ID.

  • What to expect: When signing up or at certain points during selling, Reverb may ask you to upload a clear copy of your ID.

damn I thought social security number was nuts...now photo ID's...damn

I may have to delete my reverb account. They’re asking to be a target of account hacking/theft due to the depth of personal information required to be on file. I’m at a point I don’t trust a company like that with that kind of personal information. To flash an ID at checkout for verification is one thing but to attach that to a social number is insanely dangerous IMO.

Better not give that info to the government then.

Didn't sweewater start a used marketplace last year?
Not sure what requirements or fees are involved in that, but the last time I looked seemed kinda slow.

I believe they did, though I don’t think I ever checked it out. This dude I thought made an app to combat reverbs bullshit that started a few years ago but it didn’t seem to go anywhere

Why comply so willingly?
Just waiting for the opportunity?
Used to it from Tinder?
Sorry, long weekend at work.

My last 2 Reverb purchases were shipped to a made up address. Reached out to Reverb for help. They took a couple of days to tell me to fix it with PayPal. The problem wasn't PayPal, so PP batted it back to Reverb. Reverb asked me to close the case with PP, that they told me to open, and I never got resolution that will keep it from happening again.
I'll gladly shop Reverb, then buy somewhere else, and never sell there.

The video started blowing up and he made it private.

The problem with only purchasing from reverb and not selling is that everything is over priced to account for the insane markups so people aren’t losing their asses even more.

I just think reverb has been sliding ever since the original owner cashed out and said fuck it. I’m also done with the lack of customer support and backing for sellers.

I may have just been lucky and my story of woe is just around the corner, but I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Reverb since using it to sell for the last 2 years.
People definitely price to make up for the fees but the only issue I have is the people who list a reasonable price but absurd shipping because it’s not a part of the fee structure. I know I can just move along to another listing but sometimes there’s not so many of something and but for the shipping it would be OK.
I always list what I estimate Pirate Ship or USPS Ground Advantage would charge me when I list something.
I’ve bought a power amp off Sweetwater Used and that went Ok. It needed repair and the seller (was a store I think) refunded me the cost of repair. But I also gave them the contact info of my amp repair guy so they’d know it was legit.

I agree though about how much info I’m comfortable giving them, as a Data breach is when, not If with any site. Maybe 2025 will be an end to my selling. But is it any more a risk than every time a medical online check in has you upload your license image as well?

I believe that was @stratjacket

It didn't pan out sadly but he gave it due diligence :dunno:

The more I hear about Reverb the more I wish allofcraigs was still a thing

It’s the latter for me. The owner is Etsy. I’m not giving Etsy my social and my photo ID just for them to apologize, after making themselves a target for a data breach, by offering one month free credit monitoring in an email. There’s just insane risk to store that information together online and I don’t trust fucking Etsy with it.

I’m also sick of the haggling when you’re already losing your ass because of the amount of fees involved. They can kick rocks.

It also attracts an Etsy crowd of people and while I never had an issue on reverb, I did have a close call with a dude complaining about scratchy pots on an amp I sold ages ago with literally thousands on the line and it shipped across the entire USA. I had to explain high temperatures and humidity do things to amps shipped thousands of miles away.

Just sick of the platform and if I’m selling something anywhere, please ask questions up front because outside of shipping damages all sales are final. I’m straight with my gear and always open to fair conversation. I don’t cater to buyers remorse and I’m not a storefront.
