Reverb requiring Photo ID on file for sellers as of January 2025?

I stopped using Reverb when I figured out they scan all the messages for key words ...and now they want photo ID ............ good luck on that

Every time I posted an amp ....I would get the " scammer " inquiries ..... you know the ones .... " hey I saw such and such on Reverb ...Is it possible to give you a call ??

So I called a guy out one time on it ...... I guess I fugged up and used some keywords like " craigslist " " not paying fees "

and they shut my account down for 30 days telling me they read the messages ..... LMFAO ....

Never again ............ it's been a SCAM site for quite a friggin while now ...

I will buy stuff through there ( usually with companies I already trust ) ..... but I don't post shit anymore for sale

Good thing I sold everything I wanted to sell so far; for everything else there's CL and my local GC - not great deals, but when you factor in the potential for stupidity, shipping, fees, etc. on reverb it's not all bad.

I've purchased a few things on Sweetwater's used Gear Exchange (including my used JVM410H, and more recently my used Diezel VHX) but haven't tried it for selling yet.

Craigslist is worth the few extra bucks you don't get. Hassle free. Cash in hand. Private for the most part though I'm sure they'll be next.

I just deleted my reverb account, it’s absolutely not worth the risk to my personal information from some private company. I draw the line at storing my government ID and social just to get haggled for the losses on taxes. They can shove it.
How does one delete the account (vs just making it inactive)? Not being an ass - legit question as I've about had it with these platforms & would like to do the same

None of these places ever actually delete anything. Ya know, "compliance".

“My profile”. Scroll to the far right tab at the top account header center of screen and there’s a delete account option.

The reason we’re on this trajectory is our own damn fault. If we weren’t such a petty, pathetic, race of mammals, we wouldn’t need this kind of stuff. But we’re crooked, we’re greedy, we’re low self-esteem morons. It’s the anonymity that has bread all the bullshit that requires these growing stricter controls. We cause it because basically, we’re assholes.

This issue with CL is most people want the shit delivered to their house and they want the ability to return it if they don't like it 90 days later after using it....only the old dogs will drive to pick up in person these days usually. Things don't move on CL like they used to.

Craigslist has started requiring you to register with an account now with you email, I can't remember if I had to disclose my address and phone number( I don't think I did) but it does tie to your email and it keeps track of everything you list on there. Deleted or not. I'm sure next they will want to tie a SS# and ID next just like Ebay and Reverb.

The ole gov is really sticking to the corporations and the wealthy making them pay their fair share aren't they........................ :jerkit:

I let my ability to sell on Ebay lapse when they pushed all this extra crap for 1099's essentially registering as a business. I still use it to buy for now and I have an account to buy on Reverb.

The video started blowing up and he made it private.

The problem with only purchasing from reverb and not selling is that everything is over priced to account for the insane markups so people aren’t losing their asses even more.

I just think reverb has been sliding ever since the original owner cashed out and said fuck it. I’m also done with the lack of customer support and backing for sellers.
He made the video private...........WTF??????????????:LOL::lame:

You are right although in the south CL still works pretty good seller-wise though traffic probably down a bit the past couple years. I've had nothing but hassle free transactions tbh. I definitely expect them to want ID's and stuff down the line. They already started charging $ to list cars and motorcycles IIRC. They can suck a bug too. I'll grape vine sells stuff when that day comes. Whatever. I buy on ebay, etsy, reverb, etc but those sites have mostly been hassle ridden for sellers for a long time. Not worth it.

PayPal is asking for it too. I keep getting reminded to update my personal info, (after 20 years, mind you). They want a scanned photo ID, and a pic of your face! No shit!

I sent them one..

That and the world being full of theives and scammers.

Ever see a sign forbidding something that you wonder why the fuck would they need a sign forbidding something so obvious to be stupid or cruel?
Because assholes came along and did it.
For every person with honor, intelligence and empathy there’s 50 people taking selfies with wild Bisons, parking in the disabled spots and stealing money out of the tip jar.
There are people you deal with online who you feel must be insane or have a severe mental disorder but they literally just go to work, go to the store and interact with people normally. The internet can breed some serious Jeckyl and Hyde shit in people when they don’t have to worry about being checked in person. Which also includes lying and scamming with buying and selling.

I may have to delete my reverb account. They’re asking to be a target of account hacking/theft due to the depth of personal information required to be on file. I’m at a point I don’t trust a company like that with that kind of personal information. To flash an ID at checkout for verification is one thing but to attach that to a social number is insanely dangerous IMO.
Yeah there's no way.

I stopped using reverb a long time ago. After Chicago Exchange sold it the company went to shit. Chicago is still an amazing company and it's unfortunate.

It's pretty easy to get ripped off on Reverb as it is, now they want ssn and id? So the feds can tax you on an item you've already paid taxes on using your money that was taxed?

I hear you. When I list something, absolutely anything that I think would give pause to a total OCD person, I mention. My goal is that there will be absolutely no ammunition to return “not as described”. I take no returns and if it turns up funky, you better give me video and photos and I’ll file a shipping claim. The slightest ding, wearing of hardware, anything that slightly creaks or doesn’t shine gets mentioned. Sometimes people will really sideswipe you with the most incredible, minutia complaint on cheap gear.
…..so far no attempts at returns.
Good luck with that sticking with Reverb, that's exactly what happened to me as a seller. Some clown complained about something that didnt exist. Long story short I think he swapped my working Fishmans with his somewhat working Fishman and returned the guitar AFTER me declining the return offer and listing no returns.

You can say whatever you want in your ad but reverb will be deciding if you accept returns or not.

I've also been scammed as a buyer. Dude shipped a guitar with chunks missing and cracked board.

Since he told reverb that he bought this 10 year old guitar with an old dusty strap that I didn't even want, brand new from Sweetwater and had it shipped to my house FROM Sweetwater after my order with him, they decided he was right and told me sorry you're out $750.

Its a complete joke, they have foreign employees getting paid peanuts who know absolutely nothing about their field, just like your Macy's card customer service rep.

Nobody has an issue with Reverb....until they have an issue....Screw that company. Id recommend getting out now before you do get screwed, it is just a matter of time.

The system is really a reflection of the amount of people who's drug of choice is the scam. The internet is a easy fix.
Culture has evolved into whatever you can get away with mentality. Greed being fairly universal it was only a matter of time.

My buying and selling is limited to individuals Steve King has recommended.

Think about it. You want to sell your item for the same price as a brick and mortar store, yet your an unknown individual with no legitimate business presence. If you want to sell for big boy prices, play the big boy game and legitimize yourself. Otherwise sell your stuff locally and deal with the riff raff.

I’ve always though that individual sellers shouldn’t demand the same prices as a legit store that has the means to stand behind their product and has significant more overhead.

My opinion surely won’t be popular, but it’s my opinion none the less.
