Finally got to test out all this new stuff over the weekend. I would have also had an ESP Ninja V to play as well, but FedEx is retarded. Anyways, here are my thoughts...

Cameron Modded Marshall JMP - Definitely the heaviest sounding Marshall I've ever played, tons of gain and really aggressive. The lead tone was really sweet and was very fun to play, lots of sustain and harmonics. For the style of music I play, I thought the rhythm tone was lacking something though. I just couldn't get it to sound like I wanted, it was about 90% there, just missing something. It couldn't quite get the crunch I like, it either sounded too "round" or too harsh. I think if I played one with the Aldrich mod, that would suit my style a lot better. Don't get me wrong though, this one sounded good but just didn't seem to handle low tuned modern stuff as well as I like. It did sound killer for 80's style tones though. Please don't flame me.

Mesa Mark IV - A lot of people were saying I wouldn't like this amp, but I definitely did. The lead tone was awesome. Really fluid and so easy to play. I just dialed in the Gainfreak settings to start off and just tweaked a few things here and there. I still think the Bogner XTC Classic is the best lead amp I've ever played, but this one is near the top. The clean tones were awesome as well, really nice and warm sounding. Didn't expect the cleans to be that good. Just like the Cameron though, the rhythm tone didn't blow me away. I personally liked it more than the Cameron for rhythm stuff, but it still wasn't 100% there for me. I thought it sounded a little bit thin no matter what I did. I think the Mark III has a better rhythm tone for heavier stuff, but the IV definitely wins for clean and lead tones.

LordOvChaos Modded OD808 - The first thing I noticed was that it didn't take away as much bass as before. It also seemed to make leads sound better on my 5150. Seemed as if everything sounded a bit thicker overall. I honestly didn't spend a lot of time with this since I wanted to play the Cameron and Mark IV for most of the weekend, but I can definitely say the mods sound good, especially for the price. Joe is a great guy to deal with as well.

you knew he was selling both amps before he even got them. His new nickname should be "Flip This Amp". Anyway, I can dial in a killer modern metal tone with my BB Preamp and my HG Jose.

So is there no amp out there that is worth upgrading from the 5150 to? I know lots of guys that play modern metal use 'em, I just nevery got along with them that well though my tastes in tone are likely a fair bit different. I'd have thought you'd made some serious coin from flipping gear by now that you could do so if you wanted, maybe it just seems like you flip more than you actually do.

He'll probably get another Caparison.
We all know he'll flip the ESP Ninja. ;)

Like I said, it didn't sound bad at all, I just think there are amps out there that perform better for what I play. I still want to try an Aldrich one sometime.

Of all the amps I've played, I like the 5150 more than any of them. It just fits my style perfectly. I still love trying new amps though.

Mark with a Mark IV, never though I'd see that even if it is temporary

Wow, the Cameron must be bright as hell with those settings... no? I always ran the mids and treble down around 11:00, presence around noon, bass dimed, bright switch off, MV pulled and I think the EQ switch in the back was down. I like a dark and thick lead tone though, and with that amp there was still plenty of cut and harmonics jumping out with those settings.

I can see how you would like other amps better for modern metal rhthym tones though. I love ch3 of the 5153 for heavy tones - have you tried one yet?

I changed the settings around after I took pics and such. I still left the mids and treble pretty high though, I play in B tuning and I like a pretty bright tone. I haven't tried a 5150 III yet, but I want to. :)

Try these with the low B tuning.

I figured that you would really like the Mark Iv for low tuned stuff- considering how tight the amps response is. For low tuned heavy stuff I think the Mark Iv is the shit. YMMV though...

Did you try the presence pulled? I always pull it, on 2, for lead tons. Sounds best to me that way.

It's pretty tight, but just being tight doesn't really mean anything. I do think it sounds good, but I much prefer my 5150 for rhythm stuff.
