good question!! I hear the same thing with my clips, always have. But I went to Sound Cloud cause Dan was using it and it’s an easy platform.

Me too. I always wonder what magical combination of LUFs and master track compression is going to give me the maximum amount of volume and dynamics and I eventually gave up. Whether it's soundcloud or youtube, I just don't even worry about it anymore lol

Just make it loud, unless I forget, then just don't worry about it - it's not like many people are listening anyways

i’m guessing most people listen on phone speakers anyway lol

The vast majority are, for sure - if they're listening at all

I listen to most peoples clips on my monitors or through my hifi system, just like I do with my mixes.

And it's funny, the vast majority of the time when someone has a couple of very specific complaints about your mix, you can almost guarantee they are listening on a cell phone

I am going for like an 80s sound instead of a modern sound 99% of the time, so when someone says my tone is too trebly, I know they are either listening on a phone or they only listen to hot topic metal

I'm thinking it's purposeful on their end. Not sure about youtube, but I notice that Soundcloud is always trying to sell me a subscription so that I can "master" my tracks... again. Doesn't seem to matter what I do outside of that. I'll have to try downloading my own tracks from there, because they say the download is in the original upload format, so I wonder.

Put your .wavs into the shitty mastering app in audacity and convert them high lol

never noticed that “master your track if you pay” interesting…

Yep, I think Soundcloud does something to fuck with your tracks on purpose to scam low information artists. I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure there is something sus going on.

Thanks Darren, I appreciate that - your stuff always sounds great too! It's difficult because i'm constantly looking for ways to make my stuff sound a little more old school and "80's digital" or something

Not "purposely shitty" but purposely atavistic, maybe

Hmm... Maybe I'll try playing the audio in soundcloud and then route it into my DAW to record. Should be able to than diff the two tracks and see what's what, unless there is some complication I'm forgetting.

I guess I am just an amateur. I just load mp3s into soundcloud. I think some of my clips translate the rawness when I mic them correctly. But honestly, I am not putting anything that needs to be heard that hifi.

You'll notice a bigger difference when you have drums and stuff with big dynamics in there. Distorted guitar only tracks are super compressed to begin with and the only peaks are chugs

Um, what? I have the original files and compare them right after downloading. Pretty sure Youtube does it just for server space saving. Soundcloud are just asses that want $.

I'm not sure that would work anyways, depending on your DAW and settings - i guess it might? Maybe a null test would be better, but then you'd feel like Glenn Fricker

Mostly just don't understand why someone would download my non downloadable song without having the master track to compare it to.
I'm not all pro on the mixes, but not an idiot either. It's soundcloud messing with the bitrate and eq so they can sell you back your own track :ROFLMAO:
