School me on Bogner amps

How do they behave in the high end? Smooth or do they have some high end sizzle? The later i would prefer.

Bogner's use Audio taper treble pots in the amps which trick users into thinking they are dark. Bogner's are pretty bright, and users would have to tun the treble way down to get a sound they like, which by the way is no problem, thus the reason these controls exist in the first place. Most musicians set tone controls with their eyes. For example, most guitarists will set the treble to noon or 1 -2 o'clock. On an audio taper pot, that is more like 9 to 10 o'clock. So on Bogner's you need to set the treble much higher than you might think you have to.

So Bogner uses these style post to tame the brightness when the guitar player sets it too the (sight position)

Ðo you have an opinion/any experience with the Uberschall?

Yes I’ve played an Uberschall rev green at band levels. I dislike the uber ultra.

Easy to solo on and immense gain character. It’s naturally a lot more hollow than a 101B and naturally voiced to be scooped. It’s like a 5150 in that it does one thing well, but that one thing it does VERY well. You’re not going to get that chewy character in the uberschall - that’s a 101B exclusive feature between the two of them. The clean channel on the uberschall is great and voiced hollow to match well with the lead channel.

Between the uberschall and my mark iii coli I just prefer the coliseum. Bigger sounding, more aggressive, and the cleans are just as good. I can’t financially warrant both bogners and the coliseum but if I could I would.

+1

I jack the presence and have my treble on 1 or 2. Takes the blanket right off.

There are a lot of Bogners worth playing IMO

Rev1/Rev2 Ubershall are just massive and have insane note definition for how thick they sound- great for leads and chugs
Uber Ultra- A lot more controlled and tight than the early uberschalls, but a ton of range and settings options- just less organic sounding and more filtered
XTC 101B- Really unique response when you really dig in- insanely good for leads and still can tighten up with the excursion switch
XTC Pandora- more modern and aggressive than the typical xtc, with way more switching options, but imo the 101b sounds more open and natural
XTC Anniversary- I havent played one, but have heard they are a little sweeter in the highs comparitively
Helios- More of a Raw Hotrodded Marshall sound than the others listed- a little less chewy
Snorkler- I havent played one yet, but from what I can tell, Dark chewy and thick, but more marshally than the xtc
Shiva- To me the best part is its gorgeous clean sound

IDK. But I do like my Bogner Helios Eclipse.

A lot.

Filled the Marshall missing gaps between my 1959x, JCM900 SL-X 5881, JVM410H, DSL40CR, Engl Artist Edition E651.

If you like Marshall, definitely worth a look and listen IMO.

They are more on the smoother end compared to stuff like marshalls, but still can get bright - especially if you pick hard- very dynamic

There’s a little bit on blue and not a lot or none at all on red IMO. Enough for inspiration. It’s nothing like my Aldrich though that’s chainsaw sizzle.

Thanks and good morning rsm, hope you are well today bro. Just lacking 1500 bucks plus the cost of an EV loaded cab, lol.

I have overspent on gear this year MASSIVELY and I still wanna grab one or two more pickups before the new year. I just told my wife about the pickups and she just started laughing at me and saying "NO". Hahaha.

same here, way too much gear this year...then again I'm also trying to accelerate my early retirement, so trying to get everything I want / think I want now.

Still to go: one more guitar, one more bass, one more amp. Of course, NAMM '25 could add things to my list.

Not sure if I'll ever buy any more axes but it's become my habit to buy a new guitar each year at this time of year as a tax write off for music income.

I'd love a USA or Japanese Viper and maybe another Edwards ES but truthfully the Lord has provided me with everything I ever need or wanted. I'm ridiculously spoiled with a few mid range guitars and a few decent amps. I'm actually looking at a Music Man RD50 1x12 like Chris Cain uses. Loud but fairly lightweight and portable for those downtown gigs and sounds killer with an EV. About a thousand bucks on Reverb. Listen to Kingfish on his rig in this clip and tell me what you think. Bogner made some amps I didn’t like that caused me to make the mistake of crossing them off my list (any post Rev 2 Uberschall, especially the Uber Ultra and Twin Jet I really didn’t like nor the Shiva’s much), but also have made some of my favorite amps

I really like the Helios and Telos for their raw, Marshall-y tones, but my favorite models that really distinguish their signature Bogner tone are the new Snorkler 50, ‘90’s Caveman and Rev 1 Uberschall

The Snorkler I wrote in depth about as a NAD. It’s their chewiest amp IME and very addictive to play. The Rev 1 Uber is cartoonish brutality with still that signature chewy Bogner sound. The Caveman is a ptp amp, one of their earliest models. It basically sounds like a much better, more organic Shiva or XTC, but lower gain and by far the their best clean channels (one of my favorite cleans I’ve played)

They cost a lot and the owner is a weirdo. Plus he fired Cameron for making them sound better.
I actually think they’re very reasonably priced vs other current boutique amps for what you get, especially the Snorkler at $2880. I’d argue it’s in some ways underpriced even. I enjoy my Snorkler and Rev 1 Uber more than the Cameron’s and I’ve had a CCV, 5 Cameron modded Marshall’s, have played 5 other friend’s CCV’s, an Atomica, and over a dozen other Cameron modded Marshall’s from friends. They are great amps no doubt, but I liked some other amps and modded Marshall’s even more when AB’ed, but I admit for years I had trouble finding any amps to rivals the Cameron’s I used to have. They sent many amps packing for years until I came across the other amps I liked more

Bogner has a pretty good range of amps as several listed. Depends on what you’re looking for, but Bogner probably has a match and you could probably get more feedback on a particular model.

But overall, high quality, well built amps that should out live us all.

I have lusted after an uber since the first lynch clip I heard back in the day. That thing sounded killer.

This is worth reading again too

That's not nice :poke:

I saw Kingfish on a documentary, great story and skills and still young!

I'll be the first to admit I've overindulged. I expect during retirement I'll sell some gear to fund new gear...which is what I did for the most part prior to 2023/2024...I've sold several guitars, amps and effects this year, but replaced them with more, especially the keyboards.

I've been wanting a new EBMM Majesty 6 since the new colors were announced at NAMM '24, and there's one more bass I want after the Ibanez shitburst which should be delivered tomorrow, I'll let it acclimate and open it up Sunday. The purchase of a second Super Twin was 1) because the one I have was damaged by UPS, and 2) it was such a low price that I could not pass it up; 3) free shipping for that combo, has to be close to 100 lbs!

I would love to have a drink with Reinhold, i like weird and he seems awesome.

Interesting about Cameron though, I didn't know he worked for Bogner. Bet he learned a trick or 2.

Yup. My favorite gear is the stuff funded by the sales of stuff I'm no longer using. I sold a couple blown JBL D-120's to help pay for the Viper. Then I got the guitar here and during testing realized I blew my last JBL, a K-120. It's developed a rub, lol. I'm moving out of the JBL realm and going all in on EV type stuff. I just blow them too frequently to afford it anymore. I'd like to have a "recording only Twin" with them but that's too much $tuff that just sits. So I ordered a used EV Force 12 that showed up this afternoon. They are good sounding speakers for less than EVM prices. 150 watts but they don't sound really good until you get them cooking a good bit.

That EBMM Majesty is a beautiful axe.

The Super Twin is justifiable cause it would also work as a sweet keyboard amp. That's a nice amp and you got it for local CL prices. You need to run it in stereo with the other Super Twin!!!

george metropolous went out with him one night...got so drunk that by the end of the night he found himself in some weird ass alleyway with reinhold and there like midget fights and fires and random shit...and he said to himself..."i really shouldn't be here"

thats a paraphrase from george's appearance on tonetalk lol
