School me on Bogner amps

They cost a lot and the owner is a weirdo. Plus he fired Cameron for making them sound better.
Yeah. I knew Cameron worked for or with him… what’s the story there and was there a difference in the amps BC and AC. (Before and after Cameron) ?

I think I read on HC and RT that he was stealing parts and using them for his own designs on the side or something like that. It involved being a thief.
Anyone know approximately what year Cameron worked for Bogner ?
Hard to believe he got canned for stealing !!!

I think it was 2005 or 2006 when I used to see him there.

Early 2000's before the Uberschall was ever released. I only remember that because I also read supposedly that MC is responsible for a lot of the tone and character of the prototype Uber.

Mind you, this is stuff I read so don't take my word for it. I've tried to confirm it with Bogner back in the day when I had more of a friendship with him and its a subject he doesn't want to get into so who knows. You can try and search for it but its hard to find old threads even when you type in as detailed as possible keywords. I've tried to search many of my old posts/threads and I usually never find them.

Reinhold's amps have been in my world since the mid nineties. Have owned many of them and loved many. Currently Loving the Uber Ultra, Snorkler and Goldfinger Superlead. Three different flavors of greatness. Had all the usual suspects and some one-offs he did. The man is a legend for good reason.

Mark was not around when The Uberschall was created. Steve Stevens had a particular great Dual Rec that was around serial number 042 and that was the inspiration to create a better version of that amp with a tighter low end and bigger frequency range. I got to listen to those A B tests back in the cabinet room and watch the mad scientist at work swapping in an out caps and resistors and punishing 4X12 cabs .

Mark was hanging out at Tone Merchants a lot back then an would bring modded Fenders and amps by to hear.

Yeah that seems to make more sense. I wish I knew who specifically said that.

I miss the old Tone Merchant days in OC. I never ran into MC though.

I've owned:
-XTC 101b, the benchmark. chewy low mids and thick but hairy highs. Lows are not the tightest but are very musical and not overpowering. Not my tone anymore but desert island amp nonetheless
-Shiva el34: great cleans and a gain channel like the famed XTC blue but with a bit more teeth and grain.
-Helios 100W: tighter but less musical lows and solidly in the modded Marshall camp; heard it's Bogner's take on a Jose but can't corroborate. Uses diodes
-GF90: lovely lower gain brit-style tones - can be boosted but didn't feel as nice under the fingers as the XTC. uses diodes
-Helios eclipse: some love the added versatility over the std Helios but the sound is just too much.. gain, pump, noise etc. again, diodes

Even if they're not your thing, it'd be hard to get a bad sound out of them. He knows what he's doing and has a distinct voice he imprints in his amps.

I understand as well he was tweaking Bogner amps out of spec to make MC specs. Or something of the sort. Could be a multitude of things that lead to the removal. Idk. All speculation.

Here's an in the room clip comparing 3 of them (XTC 101b, Uber Rev Green, Helios Eclipse):

I have owned the Uberschall Rev Green, XTC 101b, Helios Eclipse, and Uber Ultra. I sold the Uber Ultra and the Helios Eclipse. The Rev Green is probably my favorite but it's almost closer to a Revf Dual Rectifier with Bogner DNA. XTC 101b has a very fun feel to it and is the most versatile from great cleans, leads, and chug capabilities. I am interested in trying the Snorkler and will probably pick one up at some point unless a new Bogner Fish preamp with the Cantrell mod comes out then will grab that. Uber Ultra sounded too filtered to me but could get the tightest of all the Bogners for Meshuggah level 7/8 string playing. Helios Eclipse was very balanced and sat between an XTC 101b and Uber Rev Green.

Seems to be par for the course in this industry. Hell life in general. Lots of copycats out there, I give praise to anyone who creates an original piece of work no matter what it is weather i like it or not.

Cool comparison. I’m an Eclipse guy - have been since they came out. I expected to prefer the Uberschall for your particular riff but I loved the way the Eclipse sounded. It’s been close to 6 years and I’m still really happy with it.

I had a 101B for a couple of years and it was literally a dream come true at the time but at the end of the day I really just loved the blue channel. That was 15 years ago and I’d love to give it another shot. Maybe the 20th Anniversary instead of the 101B.

I’m waiting for my name to come up on a Snorkler 50 but I’m not sure if I’ll follow through. I’m not a hair splitter and I wonder if my Helios Eclipse gets close enough for my taste. We’ll see.

I might be in the minority but I love my 101b with G12H30 blackbacks, they add a bit of hair/cut, more anger, tighter low end, etc, which is cool for that 80's pissed off, Marshall hair rock thing.
