Seasoned Micro Pitch Shift users advice requested

Yeah, if I only use Fractal I don't notice it. It is mostly when I try to combine it with tube gear.

I have not tried Syrymon. I have always been curious about the Dig, but I have enough delay pedals as-is, lol.

I definitely think the SDE-3000D IS ADT, and the 2290p is not. I don't notice a feel change with the 2290p, but I definitely get comb filtering in parallel.

I was considering grabbing a UAFX Golden for reverb, and that is what lead me to looking at the Micro Pitch. I am considering a few choice pedals instead of a whole rack as I really don't use many different sounds. I am even considering a SA Collider for Delay / Reverb.
first and foremost, i love this stuff! i don’t mean to come across as curb stomping anyone’s tone tool parade so if you love what you have let *your* ears guide you.

i went through a delay pedal shootout phase many moons ago. the 2290p would have been my dream pedal had it come out 25 years ago. the line 6 DL4 stole that delay slot for so many people on it’s perfectly timed debut but my rack snob level expectations wouldn’t let me go there🤣

the delay/verb concept of the collider is great but i wasn’t knocked out by the feel. on a par with strymon and H9.

the sde vh was impressive but i’m not looking to build a wdw pedalboard or try to integrate that pedal into my rack. i already have a dd-500 with the sde preset and have tried to use that in my rack with less than thrilling results, due to the compromised headroom limits of a pedal in a line level system. had an sde-1000 rack delay and the input clipped easy too but the tone was there!

my last foray into putting a board together with the dd-500 as the main delay was fun

I have been running pitch shift for almost 20 years now. I have used the TC G Major, G Major 2, and G Force. I have used the H9 and the H90. I set them all the same way basically. +9/-9 and adjust the mix to taste. As stated above, it is a subtle thickening agent in my rig. I leave the mix low enough to not start sounding like I should be playing EVH riffs.
the thing i’ve been wrestling with is just that; mix it in apparent enough so it’s worth the effort, but not to the point where it degrades or thins out the core tone.

and that’s where the quality of the device starts to matter a great deal to my ears and touch dynamically.

I haven't personally had any issues running any of these pedals at line level, after a reactive loadbox. Generally the only pedals I have an issue with are regular Boss pedals, and some of the pedals I build, like BBD Analog Chorus and BBD Delay pedals (I build a ton of my own pedals, I probably have 100 of them).

I haven't tried a Collider, but I like the fact it can do delay and reverb in parallel with an analog dry through mixer. That is pretty rare. I have just been looking at ways to condense, and my requirements aren't that crazy.

100! radical!

like i said if you dig it and it does what you need in your rig, that is all that matters.
i chose the dd-500 over the timeline because it didn’t sern to affect my core tone and feel passing through as much. but i may have liked the quality of the actual wet digital effect more in the strymon. same with H9.

Don't know if this is interesting for you rack guys but thought Id post it.

so cool 😎

those OG analog circuits are so fat and chewy i love it.

as far as that goes the one thing i had that was absolutely intoxicating in that way was a roland space echo tape delay. polar opposite of the digital condom. The CE-1 too.

one of the greatest shoegazed stoner on shrooms tones i ever mustered was an OG ADA flanger set for chorus into a EH Memory Man Deluxe mod delay into a early 70s ampeg V4 half stack with its plump mushy tone.

back to now, just plugged my korg delay back into Tokyo Tower to impart its magic chorus/delay superpowers on my TSC patch. good times!

now all i need is to fill that gaping ugly void at the top of my wdw rack with a H3000!

sure wish i could find one of these to insert in there somewhere..😵‍💫😁

the ultimate micropitch shifter?
laptop, dongle, and minimum 7 speakers and a sub is all you need🤣

I think Boss in general just understands how to do a good analog dry through. However, the actual effect can be kind of boring and vanilla. Utilitarian.

Now I know what I am doing over this coming weekend. Thanks for that cool post. I don't have access to all the gear described in this thread but about 2 years ago, after trying that Boss EVH delay, I tried to mimic it using 3 Katana amps all linked together to get a w-d-w, the results were not too bad but I never went further with the idea. In the kat there is a SDE-3000 delay and a 2 voices pitch shift that lets you detune up'n low. All the cool infos shared in this post just sparked my creativity to work on this again. Thanks!

Yeah, do the delay at about 400ms on one side, and 800ms on the other, and then use the pitch shift to do -9 cents on one side, and +9 cents on the other, and you should get pretty close to the EVH thing.

I did some search in the few notes I had taken (I am totally not good at this when I experiment with my gear, I need to better document my tests) and I had the delays at 398ms and 798ms (from a Guitar World mag page I found with Google) and the +9/-9 for the pitch detune. Thanks for confirming my values were good!

Here is my clip I had done but I had forgot the phaser effect on!

it’s all about the inspiration!
your wdw rig looks so cool and compact.

i also used a kat 100 v1 head as a wet amp by running into the return of the power section.

sounded great and found it very cool you can still use the built in fx (i liked the sde delay in it too as heard in the clip below)

the fact the v1 heads with fx midi and multiple power settings go for $200 all day long is a pretty good deal imo!

@mentoneman can't listen to your clip at the moment but can't wait to go back home and check it out. I bet you will inspire me to work on my W-D-W project. Do you remember your SDE-3000 settings so I can compare them to mine?

And yes, you can get a first generation Katana for almost next to nothing since they released the Gen3. You still get an amp with over 50 different built-in effects that can do a pretty good slave in a stereo rig. Good times for musicians, cheap gear that sounds good.

@mentoneman your video sounded awesome! Big thumb up!
mahalo bronoccio!

i got a little carried away with the delay + delay but in the room it sounded nice and it was loads of fun so whatevs…😁
