Sell your mark IIC+: the black album was a mark 3.

I think that’s where I disagree. I find it hard to imagine a producer of this magnitude coming up with one of the most iconic tones of all time, just forgot exactly what amp was used. Especially considering when Dave Friedman specifically asked “ it wasn’t a IIC+?”, and he said no it was a 3.
Well, he doesn't remember. It's that simple. I ve shared both photos of James and the video saying it was a mark IV.

I don’t find that weird really. He must have been involved in hundreds of recording sessions through the years. Must be impossible to remember every little detail. Maybe he confuses it with Sykes who used Mark III’s. This guy also seem to be of the idea that Bob doesn’t really remember everything that clearly.

So,
Is Het's dumping the BBE sonic maximizer for a ADA Digital EQ rack still correct?
If so,I cant wait to see the prices of those go through the roof.

Here's a couple of big fancy facts about the period of time during which the black album was recorded:

1. Mark II's, III's, and IV's existed.
2. Metallica had access to all of them.

They're probably all on the record in one way or another.

Never seen anything about them using BBE sonic maximizer. But they used B&B Aphex EQF-2 parametrics. And Hetfield still had those in the live rack together with the ADA MQ-1 for the black album tour.

Well, there you go, another thing he got wrong. I’m sure he meant B&B, because that’s a big part of the sound of both Puppets and Justice. It’s all In Flemming Rasmussens pretty detailed notes from the sessions. As well as in pics from the studio. It can be seen on the TBA sessions as well.

Well here you have him saying it's the mark IV head for the black album. The AJFA was a mark 2C++ / quad + strategy 400 ...
For what I know there were something like nine total cabs used in the end, so a blend of different speakers . Amp-wise, IIC+ plus ADA MP-1 plus Jose-modded Marshall JMP and the Mark IV. Now, I've never seen any photos of a Mark III
Triaxis was a part of if AJFA tone

Damn him. Guess he needed a big glass of Metamucil to get his shit straight.
:poop:

Justice came out in 1988, the Triaxis came out in 1991.
I meant black album . I’m reading a guitar works now where James said it was used . He also said on AJFA ,but maybe he’s mistaken . But he says it’s on black

So glad you can read, it doesn't seem like it. We lived this already but please keep reading and tell us what we already know.

This sounds like the beginning of a pretty cool deep dive! Not just the amps but preamps , eqs, the console etc...

BBE was also on Pornografitti I thought. They get flack for hyping frequencies but i had one for a while and ditched it because it felt like cheating. It sounded good though no question.
