Damn that sounds VERY good, especially for being that low of volume. It actually sounded a tad darker than I was expecting. Ive noticed with the PPIMV down low on my Superbass it can sound pretty dark too.

I'm thinking that the cranked input gain on my mic pre (Great Rivers MP-2NV) is at least in part responsible for it being a bit darker...

Who did the mod to your PM?

A guy named Carl who is a friend of Curt's (Chubtone). He did an incredible job...

If you dont mind me asking.... how much was the mod? You can PM me if you wish.

Here are some gut shots of the mod. The PPIMV is located at the top left of the amp in the pictures. Right next to it is the adjustable line out:

Nice clean job on the mod. The clip sounds great!
It has a very balance sound, not too much highs and the right amount of mids. Cool!

One socket is unused Steve, so I take it it has a "normal" first stage, not the parallel thing anymore?

Correct! It is just like a JCM 800 preamp section now w/plexi output section...

Thanks, Phil - I think I can even tweak it a bit better, but for just walking in turning it on and recording it sounds ok...

BTW - I recorded this at 96Khz using my new Apogee AD-16x converters!! The difference between what I hear in the logic project and this MP3 is HUGE! I wish you could hear how crisp and clean this recording sounds before the MP3 compression squashes it...

Hi guys, Thanks for the kinds words about the mod to Steve's amp. I'm the culprit. To be honest, after i did the mod, I didn't want to give the amp back!

Anyway, I'm glad you are enjoying it.... :D

yo fusion-

did you have to take over the power dampening circuit to do your mod?
are you familiar with london power scaling?

and if it's kosher, how much did the mod that you did to steve's amp cost?

The power dampening is gone. You can see the mod in the picture.

It took me about 5 hours to get Steve's right. I'm averaging 4-4.5 hours now. PM me for exact costs if you like.
I'm just now studying the circuits for London Power scaling. The original "power scaling" in the Peacemaker is not the London type and IMO not true power scaling but rather a Pre PI "Master" of sorts that I yanked out. I did not care for the way it sounds at all. I've done the same mod as Steve's on Scorpion's too FWIW

Why? You know that little forum you hang out on Stan? The one where a quite a few of you are just nailing Van Halen tones? Yeah, Steve went over there and heard Rockstah's 2203/Plexi clips and wanted to get closer to those tones so the Peacemaker went under the knife instead of selling it for the price of an unbuilt Metro kit. You guys cause so much GAS on that Metro site it's painful! :D

Hey Carl, welcome to RT.

So you guys know, Carl used to work for Jose back in the 80's. Yes, THE Jose. Carl is also a sick player. Let's put it this way, when Paul Gilbert left the band Black Sheep to form Racer X, and then Kurt James left Black Sheep to replace Yngwie in Steeler, well Carl stepped in and was Black Sheep's guitarist for a few years.

He is also a beer connoisseur at a level I hope to reach someday. Thanks for that Belgian Elephant Ale you brought me today Carl. You rule! :worship:
