just curious, but why did you change the power filtering?screens and the mains?

Why? You know that little forum you hang out on Stan? The one where a quite a few of you are just nailing Van Halen tones? Yeah, Steve went over there and heard Rockstah's 2203/Plexi clips and wanted to get closer to those tones so the Peacemaker went under the knife instead of selling it for the price of an unbuilt Metro kit. You guys cause so much GAS on that Metro site it's painful! :D

Exactly! :D

Like i said, I didn't want to give your amp back........

Hey Carl, welcome to RT.

So you guys know, Carl used to work for Jose back in the 80's. Yes, THE Jose. Carl is also a sick player. Let's put it this way, when Paul Gilbert left the band Black Sheep to form Racer X, and then Kurt James left Black Sheep to replace Yngwie in Steeler, well Carl stepped in and was Black Sheep's guitarist for a few years.

He is also a beer connoisseur at a level I hope to reach someday. Thanks for that Belgian Elephant Ale you brought me today Carl. You rule! :worship:

More 80s stories

Steve, your clip sounds great for such a low volume! Nice job and you do have some EVH right hand imo

Sounds good Steve! I'd like to hear the PM at the next jam.

Me too, especially since it doesn't have to be cranked now to get a nice sound...

Sounds DAMN good, very balanced and open, KILLER!

Cool - I think my next mod is a Dagnall clone OT which should take away some of the PM stiffness.... Maybe... we'll see!

Looks like the Metro board GAS strikes again lol!!

That said, I think that you would like the Dagnall clone better for sure and the good thing is that you can always go back to the Merc if you don't dig the Dagnall. There have been lots of guys who praised the Mercs who have drop them like a bad habbit after they tried another tranny like Georges Dagnall clones. Im not 100% convinced that I like My merc either brother and I might switch it out of the metro.

So, obviously, I'd want to replace the output transformer... Is there any tonal point to replacing the power transformer or the choke???

Steve,
Yes!
Ive never heard anyone mention any tonal differences by replacing the power transformer or choke but that doesn't mean that Im right. I just haven;t heard anyone say this lol!
Maybe someone else can chime in or maybe we should post a thread on the metro site. Ive always heard that the o/p tranny can make or break the sound/feel of your amp. I have no idea how the Power tranny comes into play.

Interesting... I asked in a thread over there in the EVH forum whether the power tranny and the choke matter, but I got no answer so far - maybe you should post the question there. I don't get much play over there man - ya really gotta be on the "inside" with the guys in the know to get any answers...
