I’m thinking about ditching my ms-3… few pedals and I’m straight. I only use a few effects and absolutely don’t use the switching capabilities and other stuff in it…

I feel you on that, if you know exactly what you need and know you won't use stuff, it's good to minimize but at the same time the MS-3 is a pretty cool tool to have.

To be honest, I went though a bit of a hate stage with Boss but recently their SDE-3000 re-ignited my love for them. Now I pre-ordered the SDE-3 (compact pedal version of the 3000) and I want to get more Boss pedals in tbe future.

I use more cleaner tones (light to light-medium gain, ambient reverbs and different types of delays) to build my tones. Completely clean amps and guitar pickups are just as important. I love how different magnets affect delays and reverbs and hybrid pickups even more so

I've been thinking of putting an "all Boss" pedalboard together. Boss's large board holds 9 Boss pedals. All I want is front-end effects.

Yeah that sd-3 checks all the boxes for me. That, chorus ensemble and a eq…I’m g2g…

It's great to see that people have multiple boards like I do, I play at a church with around 25-30 guitarists but the majority of those use either a multi-fx modeler or the church's Helix units. There are a few who use their own board but I feel like it's rare to meet someone there who has multiple boards and a passion for guitar modifying or pedals/amps.
I switched to multi-fx units for several years.

From the standpoint of practicality for live use, they made a lot more sense. I just got zero enjoyment out of navigating them, I'd dial in the tones I needed for whatever project I was focused on, and forget about them.

Eventually I got back into pedals because it's just more fun & inspiring. I thoroughly enjoy having a lazy afternoon where I can run a couple of amps in stereo and dick around turning knobs for a few hours.

This used to be my pedalboard setup. I was too cheap to get it wired up by a professional, so it always looked like a rat's nest.

This was the full setup, with my synth board on the right. The synths were controlled with a Fishman Triple Play, with the receiver velcroed to the board. Note the full piano keys midi controller - a Gordius Little Big Giant - which was programmed to play/hold notes on the synths. It had eight stomps on the lower row and five above, with the layout corresponding to the keys on a piano.

I really hated this setup though. It was so big and clunky. Imagine lugging two pedalboards with that much equipment. Wasn't too long after I set it up that I tore the whole thing down and sold most of the pedals and the boards.

This is the new board:

Things are much simpler now, just use the Axe FXIII for the amp, pre- and post-FX. I can also integrate a tube amplifier into the setup if I like, and I do this at home quite a bit.

It's still too heavy though, but the great thing is I just need one XLR cable to control the whole setup. Also, if I need to switch channels on the amp, I'm going to have a problem.

My next board is just going to be my Quad Cortex and one expression pedal. A very compact setup that should be easy enough to grab and go.

This is the new board I'm planning. It's stripped down version of my midi board, just no midi loop switcher. I only use 4 presets for Delay. Plus I'm using the Mobius to do the rotary and other modulation effects. As great as the Mobius is though, I still like stand alone Phase, Flanger and Vibe. The Mobius just can't get the detail of those. Plus I'm sure Strymon will roll out an updated Timeline and Mobius soon enough so just switch them out.

I've got all the pedals and board but just being lazy in taking it down to Xact Tone Solutions to wire it up. They do great work plus they put a piece of formica on the top of the board.

Funny thing is my midi board from above in the thread is a stripped down version of my old rack setup and then this is the stripped down version of that board. It keeps getting smaller lol. I went down the midi rabbit hole decades ago with the whole rack GCX switching system and now I don't even want to think about routing and midi channels.
