Thinking of picking one up. Just hate to lose a channel.

Freakin' Love it.

It's worth it to dabble in Randall modules b/c there are sounds you won't find in the Egnater line.

Examples I like:

Ultra XL - brutal
XTC - beyond smooth, yet fairly dynamic
KH2 - sounds kinda like my Mesa Quad

I just picked up a Dave Friedman Modded Topboost, Man, its a sweet sounding module!!!!

I really also like the Ultra XL and KH2 from randall as well!!!

The Sl+ is sweet too, specially after its modded..

I have only played through a modded xtc module, and it sounded great

out of curiosity, are the friedman mods based on your specifications or is it a standard modification to improve the randall designs?

Pete's modded XTC is great and I may be getting rid of my EG5 to grab the XTC - it is so good. His new mod has over 12 major changes to the stock module, like a whole new module, very different from stock.
You lose a footswitchable channel but you can have him do a gain pull on the front plate which cuts gain to give it a more Plexi tone.

Jeff said they old mod one but I wonder if they could do similar to Pete's mods or maybe make it a two channel?

QUESTION:

If you have your Mod50 loaded up with one Egnater DUAL channel module in slot A, and a Randall SINGLE channel module in slot B, what does the 4 button footswitch do?

Buttons 1 and 2 toggle between channels on module A, and then buttons 3 and 4 both click on the single module in slot B?

Buttons 1 and 2 = Channels A and B of Eggie module in slot 1.
Button 3 = Randall module
Button 4 = Nothing

If there are specific sounds that the Randall Modules give that the Eggie modules don't, is it possible that the Eggie guys can mod one of the standard Egnater ones to sound the same?
Or even do a a custom module specially ordered to give the same result
I have read comments on here that would indicate that Bruce and his team have done just that for some of you guys

I ask this because whilst I think that the Sl2 and the EG5 will bring me close to a George Lynch sound (80s Dokken era- Under Lock and Key/Back for the Attack sounds) . I have seen the Randall Mr Scary which seems to do the trick but it would be cool to have a 2 sound Module that would do that sound as a rhythm sound with maybe a solo sound on there too.

Or maybe I am daydreaming too hard

The XTC is one of my favorite modules. Yes, you lose a channel but to be honest, on this module I don't miss it because it is very dynamic and responds so well to changes in the guitar volume knob. I also like the little bit of sag it has. It is a must have module IMO.

We mod what you want or what we think it needs. Pete does the same. We will not mod a module to Petes specs..that's just not what we are about. Pete and Dave have a niche with their ears and we are cool with that. But we will modify our stuff and Randall stuff to whenever can be to "your desire"! Since as Tommy as stated many times..it's your amp!

Guys, just throw some 9th Gen Chinese in your SL2 and be done with it. Its XTC-like enough. Itll be great tone and your audience wont care whether its an XTC or SL2. ;)

That's an adjective that I like to use for the chinese 12AX7s. They have a bit of sag to them. Not in a bad way. In an elastic, snappy kind of way. Good stuff. They sound great in Matt's SL2.

To be honest, I thought Matt's SL2 sounded more "Bogner-y" then MY Bogner at the other night's rehearsal.

Personally I didn't really like the XTC to much. Too fizzy for me.

I was thinking of getting a Pete modded Plexi and a Pete modded XTC but to be honest......the SL2 with channel A and B can come close to covering anything from Plexi to JCM800 to Bogner-ish. My favorite module till my EG3/4 arrives.

Maybe time to trade my EG5 for a Vox. :)

Mine's not fizzy at all.

I'm using JJ ECC83's though.

Agreed, mine was not modded or fizzy, great lead tone!!But is was the first module I sold off.

XTC is a super module. I don't think it's big deal to go the 3 channel route. I still run my MOD 50 with Dual Channel B'man in slot A and a old EG3 single channel in slot B. with a couple of pedals I'm everywhere I ever need to go.

Randall Plexi and others are great too. Really intrigued by the Friedman Vox module though. I bet that's one crankin' little box.

Some day, my M4 and EG5 will arrive. Then, I'll be able to assemble my rig. And then, I'll be able to participate in these conversations because I'll know what the mods sound like. Can you believe I have 3 Egnater modules sitting in boxes for almost 2 months now. Never seen the light of day. My VHT 2502 is still in the box. My CAA 1x12 cubes, still in the box. My Eminence Governors, still in the box. In fact I got the first of 2 Suhr Modern's I ordered the other day and I've only played it twice so far.

OK, I'm done. :D

The stock XTC module is too bright (probably why you're thinking it's fizzy) and quite thick...best suited to leads IMO. Can't wait to get my new Pete modded one :D
