So I went to Paul Gilbert's great guitar escape last week.

That is so awesome!! I was watching some PG lessons last night on youtube and I really like the way he explains things. He also seems like a genuinely nice guy  I'd love to do this one day...

Gilbert is so f*cking cool. All guitarists can benefit from Paul's great attitude towards guitar and music.

What are the piles of picks on the table? I use his Ibanez sig pick which is smaller than regular but just a bit bigger than a jazz 3. They only come in 1mm and were tough to get a hold of(bulk bags in Canada). I also like the Ultex .73mm sharps, and saw in a vid he's using .73mm tortex.

When you look up the antonym of "douche bag", you get Paul Gilbert. I just spent some time on youtube watching him. Thanks for sharing!

Those are giveaway picks for the attendees. Great Guitar Escape in 4 different gauges .60 through 1.00

I have his Vibrato pick that he was using and it feels like a .60 to me (full sized too).

He and ALL the other instructors are as genuine as you can be. Such nice people!

I feel like meeting any of them would be an amazing experience. Paul has always come off to me as a down-to-earth guy. He always seems so nice, and appears to be one of those people you can just have a good respectable conversation with. I bet it was awesome meeting him! Not to mention Timmons!

Amazing dude, what kind of things did they cover in the lessons/lectures?

Scotty Johnson covered time (feeling it not just playing in time), basic theory and a couple of tips to make your rock sound more colorful
Paul Gilbert covered omitting notes from scales to create different scale patterns/what different chords and structures from songs that he learned that changed the way he played & wrote songs/some technique and more.
Andy Timmons spoke a lot about where his playing and approach to playing came from/phasing and did like a little private lesson based on the student playing something and then he'd praise and critique with all the attendees looking on and listening (I was one of the half dozen examples).
Adam Fulara covered all the different components of music that you can alter to make your playing more unique.
Mimi Fox covered so much mind blowing Jazz stuff... that's the best way for me to describe it.
Tony Spinner covered open tunings for slide, playing blues with A LOT of feeling and singing lead vocals while you play.

Cool, Josh Homme does a similar thing by omitting notes to create something new/distinctive. Sounds like a great escape

And seriously it cost me only $1,500 total including 4 nights shared room with another guitar nut who came all the way from GERMANY and all the meals.

Ciao for now!

Considering what I just dropped for my wife and daughter to go to Disney for 4 days, that is not bad at all! Damn!

Here's the big question:
Did you get a chance to observe his right hand technique? Is it really all wrist movement with the pick slices down on the side of the blade at a slight angle towards the floor?

Damn man.....thats awesome. Always loved Paul....like another poster said...just seems like such a nice approachable genuine guy. Big fan of his....but never met him. The one on one time would be priceless!
Awesome WIN/WIN all the way around!

Wow, Gilbert AND Timmons? Very cool. Timmons rules!

A soon as they heard me play, they would put me in a shame chair, facing the corner! I am not worthy!
