I have to admit I've been daddario nickelwound junkie for a long time. Things have changed after I switched to Diezels & the Orville I bought that had a set of Dean Markleys on it. It was like a perfect match. I still have daddarios on my guitar with EMGs for Uber, but other than that Dean Markley is the best I've come across so far.

So what are your favorite strings?

I had always favored Dean Markley Blue Steels but heard others putting them down in favor of D'Addarios so I gave them a try. I'm thinking of going back to the Blue Steels, as something seems to be missing. Which Dean Markleys are you using?

Blue Steel heavy bottom/light top or medium. They rock with Diezels

elixir 10-46..... i think i have a super power, granted i cant fight crime with the ability to rust non coated strings in one 3 hour session lol

For 7-string guitars and especially for ones with floating bridge (mainly Ibanez Floyd Rose) I prefer D'Addario nickel wound strings. Easy to get from everywhere for a reasonable price and they seem to tolerate the bridge movement rather well.

For an 8-stringer it is a bit more difficult to find suitable strings (the 8th is 0.84) so for 8-string I prefer Nickel wound Newtone Strings. Either round core or hexagonal core depending on the guitar and its individual tonal and constructional characteristics.

In future I might go all the way with Newtone Strings, but have to make some calculations first.

Not sure if it really would affect your decision, but I prefer Rockinger 10-50s strings. They are not expensive and do last very long, I have them on my Strat and Les Pauls in standard and Eb tuning. I don't tune lower, I'm old, you know . . . :D

Hell man, I'll try a set if I find a retailer around here. I'm kind of getting old too :D , but I don't have a single guitar at regular E. The only guitar I have that comes close to regular tunning is drop D.

You know I meant just low E dropped to D, right? If that's too soft for you, let's just say I'd be really scared to finger wrestle with you :D

no no just dropped D is not to soft thats heavy enought :D

I use DR high beam .09's they give me a fat tone with edge. Which is good cause i like darker tones than brighter ones.

the same here, you cant beat elixirs ;)

Just out of curiosity; do you have a bass player? What does the bass player use?

Yes, there are differences. Some of them sound the same, because they are the same strings re-branded.

I use Elixir on my acoustic & it doesn't last longer than Dean Markley. Daddarios die very quickly.

I'm actually surprised that your elixirs treat you well for 3 hours, 3hrs is not that short of a time.
