I had no idea this much people used Dean markley. I use them too.
10-46. but i think i'll upgrade the gauge.
What's the best gauge for Drop-d?

Try 10-52 if you like your 10-46 feel in regular E.

DR Tite Fit Roundcore are the best strings available from most retailers. its just a fact...

i've tried them all. Elixirs last but sound awful. of course, i don't have acid sweat, but there are many brands of coated strings - including DR. i used Blue Steels years ago, then D'Addarrio XLs for a while.

those strings were alright, but DRs are hand wound to the highest specs, therefore their wear and sound is perfectly consistent with every pack. that's why they cost a few dollars more. plus, i think their sound is superior to almost every other brand of strings.

the DR Tite Fit Roundcores are smooth and mellow... the way strings should sound with no harsh buzzy brightness. and to please everyone, DR makes many types of strings including "Hexcore", Clear (like elixir) and Colored Coated Strings, etc. they all vary in materials and brightness. DRs don't last forever, but you should change your strings every week anyway, or every few days if you're on tour.

i play heavy strings because the tone is better. 12-54, or 13-56.

For those of you who use elixirs; do they have tighter feel compared to dadarrios?

I'd say they sound like a new set of strings. If you're like EVH and like them to sound "dead" then the Elixirs will definitely not be your thing!

DR pure blues... if you don't kill strings with the acid of doom, just plain buttery smooth.

....Oh yeah, the pure nickel wrap wears down the frets slower too.
I love DR Pure Blues. The Tite Fits are really good too. Right now I'm really digging Snake Oils.

Just wash your hands every 45 mins and give the strings a good wipe down, they all should last longer than that!!

I am both blessed and cursed at the same time.
I use Ernie Ball and D Adario 8's because i have chronic BAD tendonitis.
Lucky to be able to play and enjoy it so much but cursed to have almost constant pain when i play for extended periods of time or with heavier strings. Since ive used 8's ive learned to play more accurately and with a lighter touch. Ive also learned to compensate for tonal loss in the eqing of mids and with proper pickup choice.
I dont want to use them but its a double whammy :aww:
Tendonitis is the thorn in my flesh

I must say though that ive had it since i was 17, and believe it to even be a miracle that i can play and even at times not even feel pain.

you have my deepest respect! :2thumbsup:

Dude...thanks :) And the last thing YOU need to do is hit the woodshed! You are quite amazing and i LOVE the cd man! Ive turned quite a few people on to you guys in the past few days. Lots of Dream Theater'ish stuff and more. I wish i could hit the "woodshed" to get on par with guys like yourself and many others here but i just cant.
..The fact that i cant practice my guitar for longer than 30 mins or so has been nothing short of maddening to me since i was a kid. (playing is different than practice) Somedays i just cant play at all so i guess i just find myself doing lots of other stuff like surfing, fishing, and just enjoying life for what its worth. But its cool because for like 2 years i couldnt even play guitar at all. Nothing really helped, not even surgery.
The only good thing about this is that it has given me a different perspective on life and makes the guitar feel so much more fresh when i do pick it up.
I once heard Lynch say something similar to that and thought "right on". I also remember E. Johnson saying something to the extent of "some days when im practicing i kinda wish that i could be outside at a park or something enjoying the day"..etc. Well i guess thats kinda it for me. After all, music is really just an extension of our thoughts, emotions and life experiences.
Without sounding like a nut, i seriously give God the glory for the ability to play. ;)

Which formula snake oils did you get? I've been wanting to try those out.

Hey guys, I'm using a Parker Nitefly M, do you reckon the bridge would need readjustment should I opt to use Elixir 10's?
Any help is appreciated..I'm using Ernie Ball at the moment

I use Zachary Guitars Optimized 10s. I might try the 11s when my 10s run out, but I've been using the same set for over 6 months now, so it might be awhile... which is a good thing! :D

Thomastik-Infeld Power Brights - 9-46 (or 45 it was), 10-52 and Dean Markley Nuno signatures on some guitars...

D'Addario .011-.049 with Eb tuning. Affordable and long lasting.
