I've never played the actual amp but I do have to say that I was impressed with the SLO Plus pedal I just had my hands on. I also echo others here who said it takes a TS pretty well. It certainly did in pedal form. I think the pedal is great - would love to try the real deal.

where are you located doctor love?

Yeah I also think it's plenty tight but for some people who like robotic/sterile/solid-state/Randall-RG100/Crate-VH140C/Fryette-UL tight, it might not be tight enough. I can understand that. I personnaly prefer it the way it is.
The tightness or lack thereof depends a lot on the guitar, pickups, string gauge, where you pick the strings, and cab/speakers. Also I’d bet each person has a different definition of what “tight” is, so there’s that too.

I owned the SLO 100 more times than I can count since 1990. I buy it, play it a while, sell it, rinse and repeat.
It simply isn’t the guitar sound that I hear in my head. The mid range content isn’t really what I wanna hear.
I also found the gain on the lead channel useless passed 2 o’clock. Starts getting muddy. It reminds me of the Marshall Jubilee, which does the same thing.
That’s because the amp is 80s technology. They never changed it. Amp building has come a long way since then. There are simply better amps.

Goddamn it! Now I gotta buy another amp with modern build technology. This is the reason my wife will hear anyway. :D

Yeah I wouldn’t say the SLO would be a great RT amp. It’s a rock amp IMO, not a high gain chug machine.

The SLO has a lot to be desired in stock form. It’s tuned too conservatively for my tastes especially by today’s gain standards. It’s one of my favorite amp circuits to mod. What I do love is that after “modern modification” it can still give brutal gain levels unboosted but still clean up amazingly well. That’s the magic in that circuit - its dynamic capabilities be it with your right hand or with the guitar volume knob.

I agree with the weird mids comments. For solo players the mids are voiced to cut but for rhythm playing they’re shelved at an odd level and just sound off especially as you begin downtuning. I agree it was voiced during a different era and has hung on by a thread but the circuit needs a lot of help to get it to today’s standards.

There’s a ton more of Marshall’s for sale then Soldano SLO 100. As for the so called hyped up(negative)Soldano thing I can say the same thing about marshalls ,many Marshall’s were modded because players weren’t happy with the sound or throw a overdrive-distortion pedal up front because players weren’t happy with the sound. The Soldano SLO doesn’t need to be modded and in my opinion doesn’t need an overdrive pedal in front it has all the gain that you need unless your into extreme metal.
Dude, this is a DUMB statement.

First off, how many SLOs have been made? 3, 4K?
How many Marshalls have been made...vintage pre 1990 only.....a bazillion?

Just on numbers alone, OF COURSE there are more Marshalls for sale. DUH.

I like SLOs, I've had 4. One of the most 3D, HiFi, great clarity amps made. Right in the same vein as a good NMV Marshall, Wizard, C+, etc etc. I was lukewarm to the first one I had UNTIL I boosted it, then it came alive and sounded like a great modded Marshall.
But, at the end of the day I'd rather play through my early 70s Superleads.

i’m not a SLO 100 guy but i can totally appreciate the amp’s strengths. i ‘d run it the gary moore way. i prefer the more reasonable volumes and prices of the 30 which i thought was really nice and the soldano syn modules if i needed a slice of that pie. and gotta admit eing a rack diehard the newish X88 preamp looks very cool!

Racerxrated what ever, I’ve played them all the SLO stands alone from other amps

Damn, I would hesitate to touch my pre-BAD one, even though touching it can make it even better. Wish I had money to buy one more and have you guys modify it to it’s full potential 😌

Wish I knew better back then and bought 2c+ for even less than my brand new SLO from the factory, as I’m not even remotely a lead player 🥲

Also can I get unignored? lol I wanted to clarify something in dms 😂

You’re not on ignore 👍
Dropped a DM 🤘🏻

So what is general idea on modding SLO? I saw Jeremy do it, I hear you have ideas on the matter. Is there some generally accepted consensus for it like “Jose” mod is for Marshalls, for example?

I’ve read Gary was using a Hot Rod 50 in that 1992 concert
