Sorry about your manhood and your shitty Mark 2C

I watched it. The video is an ad for the Master Effects PMEQ pedal. That's all it is.

Also his "before" sound example sounds a lot better than his "after" sound example which is just the same tone but with that EQ pedal applying a crazy overdone mid scoop. Sounds like shit in the isolated example, and sounds like hammered shit in the mix example. Also, his “Mark IIC+” clip is actually a Mark V in IIC+ mode, basically the widely regarded worst official IIC+ mode Mesa has ever released.

Nailed it, Glenn. Great job.

That's OK. Kyle set us straight.

I agree with Kyle's sentiment here.

But I have to say... defending the Mark IIC+ while wearing a Gibson hat maybe dilutes the message a bit. :D

Why don’t you guys stop posting his vids? These threads are always full of people whining about him. Do yourself a favor and stop watching or sharing his content. That’s what he wants.
I disagree.

You have to navigate this world through a process of making value judgements. Otherwise you're caught in stasis and never achieve enlightenment AKA brain-death.

I'm off to watch Mrs. Brown's Boys.

Cheers.

I never watch the videos posted but I do love reading these reaction threads. These are pure gold. I’ve used some cutdowns from these threads at work, to my wife and friends. We should have a weekly Fricker thread.

Does this sound like how you describe it? Honestly...?

I haven't tried this pedal, but for what he's talking about (an inherently plastic-y or filtered quality to the sound) it's not gonna come through too well on a phone clip (especially also with added delay). Other than hearing it in person, I'd think to show what he's talking about in a clip it would come through more in a totally dry close mic clip and AB'ed with a similar type of pedal with a more inherently organic tone (like something vintage), but there may not be such an equivalent to this pedal. Iirc you agreed also that VFE's generally have this inherently clinical quality to the sound, but again in a phone clip it's hard to tell. These things are minor and don't matter to some, but they definitely turn me off when I can hear it. In the context of your clip I can't tell

I have the other Master Effects EQ, the metal and orange Pantera one. To be fair, it’s the best parametric EQ pedal I’ve ever used, sounds great and very controllable, wide range on all the knobs.

The key is not to dial it like a caffeine fueled 14 year old and scoop the mids as hard and wide as the knobs will physically go unlike ole Glenn seemed to do here.

A

How I described it is how I heard it when I had one. It’s a cool pedal for what it does, I just don’t think the quality of tone was all that. Every amp I tried it in sounded better without it. It’s been awhile since I had one, but I remember the highs sounding very synthetic.

The REAL Aphex EQs those pedals are based on sound very pure and not plastic in any way. Yes I’ve tried them in a guitar rig.
I’ve tried them as well. They are great. At the time, I think a friend was selling on for $600. When I saw the PMEQ I jumped. I’m happy with how it sounds and never noticed any plastic or clinical sound. In fact, I heard the same pleasant and slight tonal change and feel the original Aphex EQ added. My only complaint is the pop when engaging. ME said in order to stay true to the original sound it will pop since the original design never had a foot switch. They also said there were some significant tonal changes added to the sound when adding a circuit to eliminate the pop.

TBH I haven't tried the pedal so I was only commenting on the original lunchbox units. I am open to the opinion that the pedals are good. The reviews seem to be mixed though. At any rate, I recall that the originals had no 1/4" in/out jacks and resultingly, required custom 500 series lunchbox enclosure interface units in order to be connected with amplifier FX loops. And IIRC, since these were originally meant to be studio only tools, didn't even operate at typical +4 db line levels. I think it was much higher so I wonder if the interface padding down the signal influenced the tone.
