Stage Fright who has it?

is this him in the video? if it is then he looks like he knows how to "perform" ..... If he wants to be in the band and the band want him to stay then maybe suggest adding a second guitarist (there are rhythm guitars under the solo and harmonies here so it would work) .. that would take some playing pressure off him and maybe help him relax a bit

OH and this song fucking rocks dude

Maybe he'll grow out of the stage fright. Is it really stage fright though? Or just the dislike of playing live and having technical difficulty possibilities?

I used to get nerves before the show when I first started playing bigger churches. I remember my hands/fingers going ice cold and feeling like they were going numb and to the point where I thought I was going to pass out and sometimes I'd even forget the first song and I'd ask a band member to verify it in my head.

That doesn't happen anymore and the churches I played at only have gotten bigger over the years.

Yeah, I have videos on YouTube with my feet talking about video games and pc parts, I also do gear videos I don't hide my face because of nerves or anything 😅 I don't show my face and share personal details because there could be some psychos that make allegations and stalk me or my family. (No family photos, etc).

The cocaine is not good for this kids nerves either .

I've never had problems with getting on stage but the only thing that will help is nutting up and just doing it anyways.

Eventually their paradigm shifts and it becomes a pleasure instead of a pain.

Why the fuck is the compulsive lying predator troll back?
There's your poster child for sociopathic internet losers.
I can only assume y'all revel in the chaos.

Wtf is wrong with you? My reply wasn't to you and had nothing to do with you, it was to the OP and like I said in your obsessive/shrine thread about me, if you want to prove to these guys what you're saying is real, then take me to court. We know you won't because you'd have to give up YOUR phone/pc and you likely have alot of shit on there...so just stfu already. We're tired of your bs and how everyone you disagree with is some predator troll. You obviously haven't learned from your bans.... let's see that proof of allegations. I'm waiting.

In high school I was in a jazz guitar program, we had to do a few performance recitals each year & I was terrified of playing in front of people. A few years later, I dealt with it initially playing out with my first band.

With time & experience, I got over it quickly enough. I knew what I wanted to achieve with music and being a better live performer was an inevitable part of that. Most of my focus was on improving my sound, being a more solid player, and attempting to be entertaining on stage while doing so. Any stage fright I had kind of took a back seat to the work I was putting in.

If I was prepared I didn't have stage fright at all and I was usually prepared. But the reality is that I got no satisfaction from performing. No matter how much the crowd seemed to like it. That wasn't sustainable so I stopped looking/trying to be in bands. I love playing/jamming but on my own terms, i.e. not having to play a bunch of lame covers or shitty originals that I never liked. If we want to play War Pigs...we play War Pigs. If someone wants to hear Mustang Sally...we play War Pigs.

I could see if you were playing for a bunch of guitar teachers and players etc… yeah. They are watching you… ooopsss tisk tisk
But bar flies and drunkie drunks. No one cares. If playing covers, the listener’s brain actually tries to put things in the right order so a screw or flub or whatever is not perceived. Like in order numbers 1-2-3-5-4-6-7. I quit caring what people thought of me after my divorce so it’s become way easier to say fuck it.
ALSO. Tell people; hey man this is live music. Anything can happen.

When I was younger I'd get a bit nervous. I think it is natural to get nervous and have that adrenaline and excitement, especially the first song or two.

For most of my life I was just thr guitar player. In my current band I am the singer and only guitarist and write all of the lyrics. It is a big undertaking, especially being in my mid 50s playing rock and punk originals but it is fun.

I think if you are having fun and don't give a crap what people think, it makes everything easy. I always looked at it this way. All of those people sitting out there watching, are not up on stage creating music and being awesome. Most people are going to respect anyone getting up there.

In 5th grade the band teacher came to our class asking us to fill out a form if we were interested in school band. I remember one of the questions was can you read music; I had taken guitar lessons and learned how to read treble clef...so I was selected to join the band program...and learned to play sax (eventually going on to the city's youth symphony, high school concert band and jazz band on sax; until senior year when I got first chair guitar in jazz band; I had also played my first paying gig on guitar at 14 years old).

That year in 5th grade we had an end of the year / spring concert for the school during the day, and another at night for the families. I was chosen to play a solo, there were a few maybe 2-3 of us IIRC. I was definitely scared, especially in front of the whole school lol. My parents said, well they wouldn't choose you to solo if they didn't think you could do it... Got off to a rough start on the first few notes with a few squeaks and laughter from the audience, then just focused on doing the song which was well received.

Never was nervous again.

I started playing live in clubs and dive bars around the area around ‘80.

It was a metal band and we played Judas Priest, Iron Maiden,UFO. & MSB, Nazareth, Triumph, Zeppelin, Riot, ………. Etc.

For some reason playing to small crowds in these bars never made me scared or nervous, and it really helped me build up my confidence.

I continued playing metal for a few years, until I decided to play more popular dance rock music which introduced me to bigger clubs with a lot more people.

By then, I was dancing around the and putting on a show.

Sometimes you just have to keep playing enough until you’re able to be comfortable in front of any size.

Some eventually get it, and some just can never get over the hump.

Hopefully you can convince your son to reconsider, and work through his issues.

Despite having social anxiety otherwise I never really had stage fright because the band I was in where I was vocalist and one of the guitarists was doing melodic death/black metal at a time when it was even more obscure. Unless it was a bigger extreme metal only show you knew you were playing for at least some people who had no idea what the fuck you were doing, so you kind of went into it with an adversarial mindset to begin with and didn’t really think like “I hope they like it, I hope it goes well, etc”

Also playing and doing vocals at the same time gives you too much to focus on to have any space left for wandering thoughts or anything like that.

This is very true, most people will never know if you make a mistake and who cares anyways. But, I did have a night where Vinnie Moore strolled into the club we were playing after he toured opening up for the scorpions, my bass player thought it funny to open the night with rock you like a hurricane, I totally shit the bed on that song with him staring at me. Fun times.

Yeah I think doing obscure stuff makes it easier than doing cover songs.
