Be aware that many sellers have been scammed using PPG, just Google it.

Here's the basic scenario:

1.The seller asks for the funds to be paid as GIFT, thinking this offers protection for the seller.
2.The buyer sends a paypal gift using a credit card by clicking on the pay the associated paypal fees option.
3.The recipient of the payment (seller) receives the GIFT payment and the full amount shows up in their account as a gift.
4.Everything looks okay so the seller ships.
5.Days or weeks later, the buyer will issue a chargeback with their credit card company based on some unauthorized use scheme.
6.Credit card company will issue a chargeback, and in response, Paypal will hold the associated funds--which are now in the seller's account.
7.Because this was a GIFT transaction, as far as Paypal is concerned, there was no sale or exchange of goods.
8.Because there was no sale, the seller cannot use shipment confirmation to argue a legitimate transaction. Evidence of shipment means nothing when there was no official exchange of goods.
9.Seller's funds are held/retracted.

And its a damn shame people are actually that crooked or hard up to screw someone that way. The only choice would be for the mother fucker to die.

Just cancelled my ebay listing....I'm getting to the point that between pain in the ass buyers, and straight up thieves, I don't want to sell ANYTHING to someone that's not well known to me, or local with cash.

Sad.

If you know or trust the person I see no issues.
This for sure. I mostly buy and sell among the same guys most of the time here.
I bought your last three amps.
Yeah I have zero problems with you. How are the breasts doing? Stitches healing up? Still swollen?
Sure they will be rocking once they heal up.
I told you not to bite so hard, you damn near took my left nipple off. Doc says you need to come in for a rabies shot...I am cleared for everything else.

I won't be selling on eBay. If I can't sell it to a bro, or on craigslist, I will just keep it. I rarely sell anyway.

Nice fuckin' job on the rework man! Many would just send it back \m/
Thank you... It's a labor of love for me. :)

I was against the 180 day policy at first, but this will help weed-out those who push broken gear off to trusting buyers. I think it is rare that a buyer is actually looking to f--- someone over, but it does happen.

This is the risk you take as a seller. It's not just bad for the buyer. Paypal will also not protect the seller if payment is made through paypal for goods or services, and the item is picked up locally or dropped off. You must ship to the confirmed address.

What I don't understand is why people bitch about Paypal. If you want protection, you have to pay for it. It's a service. And if you don't know how it works, and you get scammed or something happens and Paypal rules against you, then it's on you. Read the rules.

Ebay raised there 10% final value fee now. Was a $250 cap now its $750.

im just done,, gonna stick with what I have and pray

I wasn't aware that the new policy went into effect today. I just pulled the items I had on ebay. Ebay and Paypal have lost my biz forever. I take extremely good care of my gear, and there is no way I'm letting some scammer treat it like a dirty dishrag for 180 days, then cry foul to Paypal . I don't need to sell anything bad enough to take that kind of a risk.

I was talking about your breast enlargement surgery. The DD will be a nice look for you and a great feel for me.

I'm sure we're going to see an uptick in local CL offerings, and also more used gear showing up at our local GC and SA stores due to this new policy. I'm curious as to how this effects retailers? Most have a 30 to 45 day return policy, but I can't imagine any of them agreeing to 180 day return duration. I guess they could raise prices on eBay sales, and then post a footnote that reads; "Contact us for direct store pricing" ?

I sold my Alex Saraceno Dirty Boy amplifier here on RT via direct bank transfer. Seems this is the only way left to ensure a guaranteed secure sale. I have some choice gear that I may want to sell here shortly, but there's no-way I'm going to risk it on a 180 day try and fry...

If there's any hard to find gear you've been after, you had better get it while you still can... I purchased a large box Deluxe Memory Man, Fulltone Choralflange, and an additional Chandler Stereo Echo last night before sellers began pulling their gear.

As a seller, I once had a sale go bad. Not at the fault of the buyer but at the fault of UPS. Buyer got his money back. I got a damaged guitar that UPS refused to pay the insurance claim on. So as a buyer, this concerns me. I am left to trust that the seller will do the right thing and either give me a refund or the cash from the insurance claim. Since the seller purchases the insurance for shipping, they have to be the one to make the claim.

I refuse to buy anything on PayPal gift. It has very little to do with the seller. Its just a peace of mind thing for me. When I sell, I will offer the option to the buyer.

I won't buy anything via gift. And PayPal's buyer protection isn't all the great. I bought a trem block that didn't fit the advertised trem, seller refused a refund and somehow I lost the PayPal dispute.

Clearly, Ebay and Paypal only care about one thing. Getting people to spend money using their system. It's been the plan all along. They are not interested in the seller, but want to make it as enticing as possible to a buyer, since they are the one's with the money. If the buyer base is there, the seller base will always be there no matter how crappy they treat the seller base, because too many people are desperate for an outlet to get cash somehow.

But, we live a in a free capitalist society so maybe this will push new sites with better terms up to the front of the line, like reverb.com for example. Even better yet, maybe it will help push more business locally, giving the mom/pop music shop a better chance again. That is the beauty, a free market is self adjusting to natural changes that come it's way.
