Suhr and Anderson headstock similarities....

We've already discussed the Tyler headstock and determined that it fucking RULES

At least James did something original with it. As for TA, Suhr, Tuttle, and the hundred other Fender clone headstocks, there are only so many things you can do to make them same, but different.

Yo Reza,

I am ordering a suhr with a reverse headstock-- looks dated but not nearly as dumb...

oh yeah, Luxxtone really has a very cool headstock indeed!

Sorry Amplifier, I respect your taste, and I'm sure they're GREAT guitars, but I just can't dig that headstock! lol

I don't get the Suhr headstock hate...

Suhr
T/A
Ibanez
Schector

All the same basic shape as the Fender they are based off of.

To each their own...

I don't like the headstock that much either.... but I played a Suhr Tele in NYC once that played and sounded so good that I could live with the headstock.

Now Tyler I just CANNOT play! yuk!

You need to check one out in person before you come to that conclusion...amazing guitars!

The headstock isn't NEARLY as bad in person.

Yours looks awesome

So when you are playing, you are constantly looking at the headstock?

I've read comments from both guys talking about how great the other is. Both are really high end guitar builders who have been around a long time, so its not a case of someone scalping the other's success. At the end of the day, I would guess that 90% of people who know about one of their guitars has at least heard of the other one!

guitar collector conspiracy time......imagine if you will....

they are both friends from way back. they both decide to build guitars and have converging ideas.

both are top end companies. both offer insane guitars that collectors wind up chasing.

they can sell twice as many guitars branding them as two DIFFERENT companies than if they were both united in the same cause. so in a back room, the wheels of "democracy" begin to grind.

typical two party system. no hope for the third party guitar collector.

WE ARE DOOMED!!!!! soon the utra-right anderson guys will have the majority vote in the supreme court of tone opinion against the ultra-left suhr guys. suhr eventually takes over the congressional amp congress and puts forth legislation trying to have the president impeached and have a KING installed. that's right, KING GUITAR.

it's the end of the world as we know it.
Step away from the bong

Yeah bruddah.

....Let me hit that. :D

I don't get the Suhr and Anderson headstock hate. I think they're both cool. Tyler? Well, i guess he wanted to have his own look even if it looked like a failed wood shop project by a 5th grader.  Sorry Paige. :D

Both Suhr and Anderson are just "neutered" Fender Headstocks with the ball chopped off.

:D

Correct me if I'm wrong :

I've been a fan of TA guitars since the mid 90s and still have the old catalogs where they describe in detail the woods used, chambering, effect of body shape upon tone, drop top concept, etc. Then when Suhr launched his own company the descriptions on his website on the same topics were almost identical.

Sure they're friends with a history, but Suhr seems to be copying Anderson pretty closely and not the other way around.

Again, I could be wrong...

Yeah, like i said before their neck heels were almost identical when Anderson had the 4-bolt design. However, John Suhr was making guitars way before he launched Suhr when he was in NYC with the Pensa-Suhr. And look how similiar Melancon's are, as well as the upper end G&L. Well, nobody's calling their lawyers which is good, and a big middle finger can up against Gibson and Fender.

btw the "sue" comment was because these days companies seem to sue everybody for the silliest thing.

Only because there are heaps of arseholes out there, so many companies feel that in order to be successful, they have to follow suit.

Are Tom Anderson a little bit more "hi-end" than Suhr?

No way. I'd say both companies are neck-and-neck in terms of quality, and that means both are high quality.

Personally though I would stick to Suhr, because he makes great pickups. I have a pair of Suhr Doug Aldrich humbuckers, but to tell you the truth I had no idea who Doug Aldrich was when I bought them. I bought them because I know that Suhr is a reputable and respectable company that makes great quality gear, and that the advice I received about these pickups was very good. In fact the pickups sound better to me that what I was expecting!

Funny thing for me is i really like the sound of the Anderson humbuckers, but Suhr seems to make a more authentic sounding single coil. But I've never tried the Anderson VA singles which are not hum canceling or anything. I use an SF2 in my Drop Top but i really don't care if i don't get that real vintage single coily tone, it just has to be close for me.

However, if you guys want to try a new guitar that's balls-on accurate to real broken in old strat, try an LSL. They're really nice if you like strats.

I met Tom Anderson (he gave me a tour of his factory a couple years ago) and he is a great guy. The biggest impression that I got from him is that he loves to make guitars. He is a craftsman first and foremost. He makes the best guitars he can and sells them. The reality of the matter is that the demand for his work far exceeds his desire to meet it, meaning he would rather have a smaller shop making the number of guitars that he does now rather than expand. That doesn't seem like a personality that would lend itself to litigation over something like a headstock...

I see Buzz Feitlin has a new line of guitars out. They are supposed to the be the shiz.....
