Dumb question.. If I get the black ones from Stew Mac, are they brass painted black ?This is the 1984 model bridge. It comes stock with brass fine tuners, fat brass block and old style arm
Its my understanding that they are. I've also bought new brass ones, but the old ones are hard to get out and when you get the new one in, they aren't crimped that would otherwise prevent you from loosening them too muchDumb question.. I think they are..
I can see the brass on the threads of the fine tuners on my "black chrome" Floyd.. so I think that's correct. Its my understanding that they are. They are. If you work them with steel wool/acetone you can get the 'vintage 80s OFR' look.....Dumb question.. If I get the black ones from Stew Mac, are they brass painted black ?

Interesting. When I was still gigging 2011-2017 the USA Charvels I used had the 1000; no issues over many gigs. I did eventually change all of them to OFRs because why not....but not because of functionality. Sounds like the quality however, has changed for the worse...I would swap 1000 to Original any day of the week.
Especially in 2023.
FR1000 used to be better, say 10 years ago.
Recently I've heard folks having lots of probs with 1000, including my new MIJ ESP Edwards.
I had to return it and got back answer that they haven't ever seen such wear in a new trem.
Shop replaced it with OFR without cost and this new trem is better, way more better.
1000 had wonky fine tuners, but the main issues was trem not being able to stay in tune at all. Slight push backwards -out of tune, Slight push inwards -out of tune.
Seller is reputable (well, they replaced 1000 with OFR without extra cost) and they said these new FR1000 trems utilizes softer flow steel and hardening process isn't as good as it is with Schaller made Trems.
I believe them.
I see Thomann selling guitars with 399€ with FR1000.
There must be a valid reason behind the price.
I know many people say FR1000 is same trem than OFR, just made in Korea, and they mean exactly the same in quality, expecting to have basically OFR.
I must politely disagree even if they have a good unit.
One thing also is that they might have FR1000 from earlier years.
Bad news from the seller company was that Gotoh and Schaller both as well seems to lower their quality.
I had to replace the original Gotoh springs since they kept horrible noise, something Gotoh springs never did before. I've changed few sets of trem springs before without an issue.
I have 2011 LTD Elite with FR1000 and I've played that guitar h**l and back, still awesome. Keeps the tuning no issues whatsoever.
I believe FR1000 have degraded in quality recent years/recently.
It's not ESP's fault they build awesome 2k guitar and get their trems from Korea which used to work just fine before.
It's a rather new info, not much info about 2023 FR1000 quality yet.
We'll see what 2024 brings.
Hopefully correction to quality.
Floyd Rose btw drops "made in germany" stamp from their German made OFR's from now on.
If it's not 'made in Germany' then it will be difficult to tell a 1000, from an OFR. You used to be able to tell a 1000 by the beveled edge of the saddles. I'm glad I'm good with keeping the older USA Jacksons/Charvels I have now, with vintage OFRs that I sought out long ago.Unfortunately, this is my experience (also) at the moment.
The FR1000 has been perfectly acceptable in the past, and it's no wonder that people still consider the genuine and the 1000 to be of the same level.
Hopefully the Korean manufacturer will improve the quality and make the FR1000 with time and better quality control before the brand is affected.
My friend who plays in the same band also has the previously mentioned problems. (with 1,5k Jackson).
I can't say if there are several factories, and if only some have problems, or if something is tried differently currently.
Seems like OFR is way to go currently.
I don't understand why it won't state "made in germany" anymore in future.
Hopefully it's not the first step to take production far away.
