The Coolest Strat thread?

While it’s about as traditional as it gets, I still get a major hard on for 50’s-featured Strats. Leo knocked it out of the park with everything but the radius and fret size back in the day and I’m certainly a fanboy of 50’s era Fender in general. This is another partscaster I got this year with the big ass 1” neck, I fucking love it. Pribora Classics that are vintage voiced, but the bridge doesn’t sound all thin and pussy-like. Middle tone knob is the master tone, bottom tone knob blends the neck pickup in (or the bridge, if you’re on the neck pickup).

Dude I bought it from said it’s an ash body, but that grain looks way more pine to me. I’ve only seen maybe 2 ash Strats that had that tight of a grain. It’s really light, this thing can’t weigh more than 6lbs and I suspect pine would be a bit heavier, even once dried, but I dunno. Regardless, it sounds fucking great and I’m glad I got it.

And this monster of a neck that ruined my enjoyment of thinner necks for the rest of my life. I just sold my PRS because of exactly this.

It took a couple of years searching, until I finally found a good deal on this one locally. I'm not completely in love with the color, but it does the badass Strat thing in absolutely every way.

I love my newest Strat. One of my favorite guitars I've owned and I've owned a lot since 85'
American Pro?
Maybe not the "coolest", but I love this one. Built by a good friend who happens to be an amazing luthier. Its a '56 spec build with some "tweaks":... fat Pau Ferro neck with Macassar Ebony board, Callaham trem, Zhangbucker hand-wound vintage pups. He also did a '61 spec lightly relic'd thats in the background, which is also a great creation.

Dammit! That is fat! Like a can of Pepsi! Does that play well? I always thought wizard necks were the way to go but as of late I’m beginning to like fat necks. Do tell! Better for chords, solos, tone?

If you ever decide to sell the yellow one, I'm in.

@alund, it plays GREAT. I don’t generally get on well with tiny frets but those aren’t even a bother and I’ll wait until I wear them out to replace them with med/jumbo SS frets. The neck is almost dead straight with no relief and the tension on the strings was so light I went up to 11’s in standard just the add some tension back in, but they just feel like obtuse strings with buttery tension. :ROFLMAO:

I don’t really get into the tonal mythologies; heavier = more tone, wood A sounds better than wood B, but that neck makes me think there’s somethin’ to bigger necks giving a bit ‘more’. More of what, I dunno, but that thing sounds huge, even though the pickups are vintage voiced. The clean sounds are the classic, clean Strat tones and I mainly use this guitar when ripping off EJ tones, which the bridge does pretty well. I can’t get a thin, shitty tone out of this guitar.

Interesting term "buttery tension". Some time ago when I got tired of all my gear, I sold most and kept the important stuff to me and have been on a rampage ever since, getting more shit. Not what I intended: BUT, I have since found that there are certain guitars that give that "buttery tension" a real meaning. Then there are some that the strings feel like piano wire when bending. "Mommy, my fingers hurt!" Good adjective for something I could not describe myself.
