The Coolest Strat thread?

Interesting term "buttery tension". Some time ago when I got tired of all my gear, I sold most and kept the important stuff to me and have been on a rampage ever since, getting more shit. Not what I intended: BUT, I have since found that there are certain guitars that give that "buttery tension" a real meaning. Then there are some that the strings feel like piano wire when bending. "Mommy, my fingers hurt!" Good adjective for something I could not describe myself.

Yeah, this gets mixed replies, but I honestly believe neck relief is the biggest card holder when it comes to string tension. Guitar is too tough to play? Turn the truss rod an 1/8th of the way counterclockwise and the strings will loosen up a bit. My only “proof” is how it feels after doing it, as well as watching the floating trem on my Strat raise/lower when adjusting the truss rod. A couple weeks ago I added some relief to the Gilmour Strat, tuned it up and the bridge was decked, where it was floating 1/8” before I put the relief in it. That was enough for me to confirm that adding relief reduces string tension, or else the bridge would have been exactly where it was before I added the relief.

I think I definitely have one of the weirdest lol

Honestly, I can't find anything 'cool' about the typical Strat. And my first electric was a brand new '74 Hardtail Strat. The moment I played a Gibson-style Guitar, there was no going back. In '79, I bought a brand-new Dean E'Lite at old Don Weir's Music in san Francisco.
I have been thinking of doing Warmoth/Musikraft Gibson-scale Strat with three P90's style pickups. Could be nice to have so somewhat 'Fender-ish' sounds.
But typical s/s/s Strat? Been there, done that. Don't want the t-shirt.

There's so many awesome strats in this thread. Mine is a Carvin Bolt. Ebony board with stainless steel frets and a swamp ash body with quilted maple top. The Wilkinson trem works well enough and I added Sperzel locking tuners. Swapped the pickups to some 90s Fender American standards. For the money I find the Carvin hard to beat.

I've never understood the animosity towards the Antigua finish, I've always thought it was one of the coolest finishes Fender ever made available.
Thanks

It was my gigging guitar for the 1st 1/2 of the eighties.

I retired it after I picked my ‘80 Lp and ‘80 Explorer.
