tag is actually a pretty good player, but he has a strange need to be THE authority of dumble type tones. and he has a fixation on bruno amps, which are good amps but not as good as tag makes them out to be. i told him years ago that brunos weren't as cool as two rocks and he 'bout lost his marbles. now he's all back into the emerald pro...


scott lerner is way more reliable for dumble tone info because he plays more of those types of amps, plays just like robben ford, knows how to construct the amps and why they get certain responses, knows how to record very well, and can understand how a particular tone got to record with much more experience than tag. and he really doesn't have any loyalty to one particular amp.

he's just reaching for the amp that helps him realize "his" ideal tone
Lerner is a great player and I respect his knowledge big time but I also laughed my ass off when Snider lit his ass up in that thread and Snider was 100% on the money.

I'd love to see that, what page was it on?

I have no clue, it was maybe 3-4 weeks ago and may not even be there anymore as Snider railed him HARD!

I also picked up a SIGNATURE Paul Reed Smith Santana II guitar. The damn thing didn't look metal enough, so I put on a Testament sticker and threw it down the stairs. In my classic rock band Gray Slutbangers, I take the Santana II through my metal zone (with the gain all the way up) into the (Insert Dumble clone here) and crank it all the way up.

err something like that... pretty clear I'm no rip glitter...

There is no "Robben Ford tone" and there is no "Dumble tone"...Robben's tone varies from record to record, and Dumbles pretty much all sound different. Everyone looking for the "Robben Ford Dumble tone" seems to be going for the "Politician" sound, which is a great sound IMO. I'd like an amp with that sound too, but I ain't paying thousands for it. I think the Ceriatone is a great sounding amp that's capable of the "Robben Ford Dumble tone" and it's barely over $1K shipped complete. I'll buy a Ceriatone, screw those $4K cork sniffer clone builders.

I love TGP for some overly serious gear talk, if you look at that number 1 rig thread theres a guy with 3 trainwrecks, a lot of those guys have more money than sense, but then the same can be said about a lot of us!

This place is good as it bridges a gap between TGP and "boobs and pubes" dominated HC.
