THE FRACTAL DEBACLE

I thought Cliff stated there would continue to be updates to the existing models for a at least a while. There are a million threads over there and I poked through a few of them and thought I read that. Honestly, how much left can be done to the original units other than introducing a few new amp models? It seems most of its limitations are now hardware based.

Never has so much e-drama surrounded the release of a new product.

Complaining that a used item is actually worth less money now? Welcome to capitalism.

There has been Axe-Fx drama, pretty much since they were released. I am not surprised at all by the reaction.

I do think Factual could have done the release better. I was not a fan of the countdown. And when they do announce it they should have had product ready to ship....

I think recent purchasers that actually asked Fractal if they were going to be releasing a new product, and were told a flat out "no", have a right to be pissed. Values dropping overnight because of a new product release has been common in the technology landscape for decades though. They are still holding their value better than most new amps.

People got used to getting free updates with brand new features on a consistent basis, but no company is obligated to do so. Most companies just release firmware updates to fix bugs. That said, there will be more updates for the old units, Cliff stated the existing memory left on the old units is reserved for new models.

Yes, that's exactly what I thought I had read too. If the current Axe was bug ridden and he just abandoned it then that would be wrong, however it's not buggy and runs pretty well. If he is going to continue to give any sort of updates to it that are added features then consider it a bonus. Many companies don't do that.

hmmmmm, you'll probably release a CCV II and just drop the original CCV without any notice.

GET HIM!!!!

I received my Ultra on 04/04/11. Needless to say when I found out about the newer unit, naturally I was upset. Given the time frame that it was purchased, I sent Fractal an email on Monday, explaining my situation blah, blah, blah....

This was there response.

The return period is 15 calendar days from the date of receipt. You are beyond the eligible date.

No apologies, not even willing to take it back with a restocking fee, nothing.

I did get what I paid for and like the unit, but not happy with how they handled it.

Someone should send Fractal a link to this thread...it'll make that cold Cliff fellow shed tears for what he has done.

The countdown is Marketing 101...almost every industry does campaigns like this. Not sure why its viewed as some unethical, egregious business practice. The Ultra didn't change because the Axe II was announced...it still functions the same as it did the day anybody decided that it was worth the price of admission and bought one.

I was thinking the same thing, as soon as the CCV revision II drops the "must haves" will immediately abandon the original and start dumping them on the used market.

I'm the type of fully grown male individual with a nice package that would sell my ultra unit for $1,400.00 just to get rid of it right away and buy me a new II that's realer and juicier!
Don't forget about the updated firmware, or perhaps its firmerware with AF2.
