Awesome dude! Your wife will love to be around her family, and I'd bet you'd be happier doing what you love anyway! Reinvent yourself.

I'm reinventing myself, I can't be a software engineer for the rest of my life, and I have no desire to do it.

I went to Tokyo a few yrs ago and was overwhelmed with guitar stores. You should have no problem setting up a Tonenerd Pickup Empire over there. Best of luck man.

That's awesome Scott! All the best to you and your family.

Scott, you are a gentlemen and a scholar! Your attention to detail even in packaging is very well thought out, and the 4 sets of pups I have will be keepers for life! Happy for ya that your family has this opportunity and also happy that it looks like you will be able to continue ToneNerd. I look forward to continue to do business with you for years to come. 幸運

My bother loves it there.spending years at a time there. Talking to him it seems like a really cool place with great people.
As a side hustle you always have guys on this forum to sell Japanese gear too. 😉

You have much to consider but japan is awesome with a very low crime rate and very respectful people. You will do well, here or there!

Hey if you find some nice greco's out there let me know ;)

I hope you get to continue building pickups. Your pickups are my preferred brand

Thanks for the support guys. I’d start a thread about how awesome and supportive everyone is, but is think there’s 2 active threads already :)

Wow -- color me jealous. I lived in Japan for 4 years when I was a kid and loved it. Comfort food for me is a bowl of miso and a bowl of katsudon. What an awesome thing -- Congratulations!

I know your wife is jazzed about being closer to her family. You’re a good man SO! Best of luck buddy.

As some of you may or may not know, the pickup winding for me has been a part time thing. In efforts to keep prices low, I operate with no advertising, no online auctions or listings and for the most part only spamming this forum:D, yet still get 5-10 orders a week, many of which are outside of the forum.

I still hold full time non-music related job

My wife has accepted a US government job in Japan and the family will be accompanying her. My employer is considering allowing me to work remotely although I would be working evenings in Japan to align with US hours. I currently work a 4 day work week and wind Friday through Sunday. Since I will still have access to USPS on the military bases and qualify for an FPO AP PO Box, I think I can still operate as usual and still get parts and still ship without incurring additional costs. The only difference, is that priority shipping will now take 8-10 days. This is a life changing move and I have a lot to think about. If I cannot get approval from my employer, I will be worried about finding suitable employment over there and maybe I will have to consider taking the next step pickup wise. This is a bit overwhelming at the moment. I’ll keep everyone posted
Wooow! I hope everything unfold the best possible way!

You will have japanese market at hand too!

Hope everything works out ok, as has been said earlier, there is a huge market for 'proper' guitar based music there, on a side note, my guitar goes to the tech next week to get the pickups in! (can't wait!)
Thanks again Scott for all your patience and guidance!

Is your wife a secret agent hoping to infiltrate the yakuza?!

That is badass!!! Hey if you want to keep making pickups, we'll buy wherever you are man.

Marty Friedman lives in Japan and who knows, you could end up making him a pickup to his specs. Great opportunity for you!!
