The Future of Tonenerd Pickups

Whatever you do I wish you and your family the best of luck!

As some of you may or may not know, the pickup winding for me has been a part time thing. In efforts to keep prices low, I operate with no advertising, no online auctions or listings and for the most part only spamming this forum:D, yet still get 5-10 orders a week, many of which are outside of the forum.

I still hold full time non-music related job

My wife has accepted a US government job in Japan and the family will be accompanying her. My employer is considering allowing me to work remotely although I would be working evenings in Japan to align with US hours. I currently work a 4 day work week and wind Friday through Sunday. Since I will still have access to USPS on the military bases and qualify for an FPO AP PO Box, I think I can still operate as usual and still get parts and still ship without incurring additional costs. The only difference, is that priority shipping will now take 8-10 days. This is a life changing move and I have a lot to think about. If I cannot get approval from my employer, I will be worried about finding suitable employment over there and maybe I will have to consider taking the next step pickup wise. This is a bit overwhelming at the moment. I’ll keep everyone posted
Best of luck... just remember the key to success is taking chances. (y)

Thanks all. I’m looking at taking a short break immediately after clearing existing orders, just to get all all my legal and logistical stuff in order before my wife leaves on Dec 2. I’ll likely do a few big batches over the holidays and assess where I’m at in house sale preparation and work situation. I’m going to muscle through this but I can’t keep up at the existing pace with all that’s going on. I appreciate everyone’s understanding.

Damn man! I’d LOVE to live abroad. Congrats to the Mrs. Sounds like a great opportunity.

I definitely want to check some pickups out when you’re rolling.

Best of luck man, it's been a pleasure doing business with you and I love your pickups. Hope everything can work out for you.

Is the move being paid for by her employer?

That’s the driving factor. My wife is Japanese and my kids obviously half. We have no family in Texas. We will be with 30 minutes of her entire family. This is a rare opportunity.
Japan is a wild and awesome place BUT it's tight. The way we live here is so different and so much " bigger" in every sense of the word. If you go and your wife is close to her family again, it may be tough to come back when/ if you are ready to. Either way, roll with it and I hope everything works out for you with remote work because I don't think you feel like working in a hotel or teaching English. Cheers!

Edit: I see you have experience, connections and language skills already so why not get a local with good English to help setup an online business and start winding pickups and building Tonenerd amps??? The Japanese love their gear. Buying local from you would be cheaper than buying a Friedman. An idea if you can't remote work..

My equipment along with my household goods will be picked up in the next week or 2. It will take about 80 days transit. I will not be accepting any more orders effective immediately. I will complete orders that have already been placed. I will respond to email and will put you on a list, but I cannot commit to any dates at this point.

Thanks
Scott

Safe Travels Bro, I'm sure I'll be bugging you for some more of your killer pickups once you get settled in. My best to you and your family.

Just watch... I bet you are crazy successful selling pickups in Japan. You can quote me on it.

It's also cool having someone I know in Japan where I can have you check out cool vintage pedals before I buy. lol. I'm sure prices over there are way cheaper for things like vintage Boss and Roland, etc. :ROFLMAO:

Godspeed brother, thank you for your brilliant work Scott. RT will be waiting to hear about your future plans for world domination unfold bro!!
