Marshall is the only one to my knowledge that used el34`s instead of el84`s in their small / lunchbox amps but to me they`re too expensive.

PRS MT15 uses 6L6's and if you consider the Soldano HR25 a lunchbox amp, those are big boy tubes too.

In my definition of lunch box amps, they should have a metal shell and not wood. So therefore for the Soldano HR25 wouldn't count, nor the mini jubilee. I am fine with lumping them in with the lunchbox discussion if the goal is to understand should I go with the big version or little version.

I do wish more small amps would use the big bottle tubes as I prefer those to EL84's. It was nice to see the Mesa Fillmore 25 use 6V6's versus EL84's. Still surprised that Mesa didn't use 6V6's for the Mark V-25 or Mark V-35.

Right but Im talking el34`s some but not all 6l6 amps can be replaced with 6550`s.

I don't know which came out first, the Krank Rev Jr. or the Soldano Hot Rod 25, but the Krank also came with 5881's which could be swapped for 6L6's (although most full-size 6L6's didn't fit inside the headshell, just the short bottle ones).

I don't know if it was because cathode-biased, but It still sounded pretty farty turned up loud to full-band levels. Yes, it had lows and highs to spare, but not the headroom, IMO.

Are the Soldano and the PRS anything like that too or does the fixed bias thing help a little?

My favorite lunchbox amp is filled with beer, not so much lunch, tone or live-band usability. Beerbox amp, a better name?

Golf Shoes vs Running Shoes vs Formal Dress Shoes vs Rock Climbing Shoes... Which are better? What if, you're going swimming?

Silly huh?
Perspective is KEY

For Golf: Golf Shoes FTW-- The rest-- Not so much

For Running: Running Shoes FTW-- The rest-- Not so much

For Rock Climbing: Rock Climbing Shoes FTW-- The rest-- Not so much

For Lunch and Hauling Beer: Lunchbox Amp (?) Nah-- Too small to fit all the Beer, and the Drummer's Trap case gets too heavy-- so

Alternate/Alias login, maybe???

Well...

Because you didn't know to stipulate in your rider, and they were a corporate sponsor of the gig??

It's Beer.

It's Cold

It cost you nothing... How the hell did you get backstage anyway? Security!!!

Ungrateful bastard

:gethim: I did borrow a friends Boogie Mark V 25, meh. So I went to my local shop and tried a Friedman JJ Jr side by side with a Mark V 25. What a joke, Friedman goes to 11! It's more like 7. Pitiful amount of gain. All in all I tried about 6 amps and they were all very plain sounding as if they were all the same, only one with good, not gobs of gain was the Boogie TC50. Now I see why guys have boost pedals.

So I bought a Boogie Quad pre amp and 50/50 power amp for $900.00 for the pair immediately after the mini amp try-out. Trying out those amps sealed the deal. The Quad's got gain. Gobs of gain. If I break the pre and power up into two rack cases it's as light as a lunch pail.

I’ve wanted Bogner Atma ever since it was first introduced at NAMM years ago as I thought it sounded killer in clips. Preferably the combo as I need something I can grab for small gigs and occasional band practice where I can use my main pedal board too.

Is the Atma still holding its own with all the new lb’s that have come out since?

Well Zach, to be honest, I was going to say the same... if that fridge is in your own man-cave/studio, better fill it with quality.
Duvel, Jever (best German pilsner IMO), Karmeliet Tripel, some good IPA's, etc.

If it needs to be US beer, Sam Adams, Stone Arrogant Bastard or Cali-Belgique, heck taste-wise I prefer a PBR by a landslide to Bud/Coors/Miller; the proverbial 'sex in a canoe'. ;)

Ya, just a stock photo, not my beverage selection either. I'll have a Diet Coke, and water for thirst and some tequila for fun. ;)

I figure you'd have something more like this, but filled with your favorites:

Not some insignificant Girly-man, lunchbox solution filled w/ soy milk.

To me lunchbox amps are like gluten free, vegan, diet food... You can live on it, but I'd rather have a steak

That's actually on of the best analogies I've read so far, and I even enjoy some lunchbox amps (in fact I still own 2) as well as some veggy food, but... while it will feed you and may even taste good, it won't hold a candle to a properly done medium-rare dry-aged rib-eye or seared tuna.

A lunchbox amp won't make you do that 'damn, something smells naaaaasty'/rawwwk  face when you strike an A chord on a Les Paul through a 100W half/full stack, while your bowels start rearranging and your pants' flare is suddenly behind your calves.
