The right Wizard model for me.

If I remember right you did a huge amp buy at one point?
Yeah I bought a UHaul truckload of Marshalls and Hiwatts. That was back around the same time I bought the Wizard. @2006

I got ya man. I do think a wizard 800 though will for sure be good though . It’s been a crap shoot with some Marshalls sometimes but I feel ya . My fav is my Hermansson 5 gain stage 800 like I said . So I’m no 800 hater
I hear Hermansson are awesome. I am not a Wizard hater either. They certainly don't suck by any stretch regardless of personal preferences. I grew up on Marshalls and they are just home to me. My buddy has a Bogner modded 2204 that is insane!!! I would be totally up for sampling some modded Marshalls again. Is this Hernmnsson dude overseas? or here in the US. What about this Eddy Lentz? I think he is overseas or I would be knocking on his door for an amp!!. Holy shit! His Marshalls sound otherworldly. Granted he is an extremely talented player but seems like any amp he demos sounds awesome!!

He’s in Europe .hopefully end of this year is amp line is done and comes out . I’ll send you a link. He’s definitely my fav amp maker

this is about the coolest thing ive heard on a forum ever :ROFLMAO: whats up with the dog pecker pink marshall?? i want to play it for its color alone
This was just post divorce. I kept the house and went on a tear for a few years.. If that place could talk!

That is a 1979 (iirc) JMP Master MK2 2204 in Factory fawn tolex. Should have kept that one! It was the best of my MV JMPs.. Or are you talking about the purple? That one is 90's 1959 SL Hendrix limited anniversary amp and matching cab. Should have kept them all but eventually over time I sold them all. Stupid maneuver. Hindsight is 20/20. But they were not very user friendly in the absence of todays technology. So I played mostly Bogner and Soldano but I dabbled in other stuff too.. I was having frequent loud as fuck open jams and huge parties in my house and even then all the 4 holers were almost useless. The Jube, MV JMPs and 800s worked fine, but still not quite hitting their stride. And we played loud!! I think that is why the boutique amps became so popular. Preamp saturation, volume control and FX loops. But now with Fryette PS or similar you can get the big iron in the sweet spot, have an FX loop and voila, the boutique stuff doesn't really excel or have the same upsides by comparison anymore. More People are gravitating back to old Marshalls etc. because they can get "the tone" that most of us have ingrained in our heads..

That was an epic pic, will always remember it. Hard to believe that was ‘06!
Thanks man. Those were fun times!!! Now that I think of it, it was September 2008. I had just closed a real nice real estate deal and immediately spent nearly the whole wad in one big shot. Lol.. Live for today, 'cause tomorrow may never come!!.

The Wizards I’ve had are some of the least fizzy amps I’ve tried. They only sounded fizzy to me at low volume, but once it’s opened up not at all. I do find them dry though (MTL maybe a little more) and both have that round, smoother quality to the mids (Hiwatt’s and Fryette’s sorta have a similar thing too). I interpret it as a more hollow sound, while Marshall’s will have more growl and personality in that frequency range (jubilee not as much like you said. I don’t like them as much either). Like others already said, they are very open, clear and punch hard. This makes them very impressive in the room. Any Wizard you get will be a very big contrast to a ccv (I have one too). I enjoy my CCV and MTL similarly well. Apples and Oranges for me
Nailed it.

Someone said, 'I am dying for a JCM 800 may I should buy a Wizard." ? Hence my reply... Absolutely, there is no right and wrong. Certainly no best or worst. It is all preference and frankly splitting hairs in many cases... I was just responding to the stated dyer want for an 800. Why not just get that?
Right, I said that since the thread title is about which Wizard is right for me. I have been looking for JCM800, want an original 2203 that hasn’t been modded. Really just a discussion point comparing the W800 to the JCM800.

They have tons of muscle but it's more like a thud. They lack the Marshall knock and sparkle, to my ears anyway. To each his own..
i agree :dunno: kind of like this vid, maybe some dudes like this kind of tone but to me its just completely lifeless

I much prefer a @LickliterAmps modded krankenstein. Way more aggressive and just more pissed off. And the owner of the company is actually humbling.

Man I just love all these high gains and the different flavors . You can’t go wrong with most of these big names and even new comers . If you’re good at tuning in amps most of these amps mentioned can be killer

It’s a little gritty for my taste but I can understand the appeal unlike the other vid, it definitely has a character and is pissed sounding.

^what's interesting about those pics above, it that it includes the only KT88 W800 in existence and probably the only 6L W800 too, the first production '22 Rock Standard, likely the the only 6L Hybrid and 2 of a very small bunch of 6v6 MC2 mk2/MTL mk2
