Thinking about getting a UA Ox Box what digital interface would you recommend?

something with SPDIF input might work well considering OX has SPDIF output. digital, straight in, low latency even though latency is less of a concern these days

If you are not going to record and mix alot of tracks, pretty much any interface will work. They all sound pretty decent anymore. I have a few different ones that get used.
Most times for serious stuff is the Apogee Element.
Just picked up the new Blackstar Polar 2 channel to use with Tonex plugin for working on tunes. Plugging guitar straight in and using the preamps sounds really good. Have not tried micing with it yet.
Also have a Presonus entry level that sounds good. Problem with that one is only for a MAC. We have had trouble getting them to connect with windows machines for some reason.
I use Logic, works for me.

Wait, you can use the Sunset Sound Reverb inside the Ox? I thought the Sunset Sound Reverb was IK Multimedia and the OX used some other Universal Audio reverbs?
I'm don't think the preset settings provided are from the Sunset sound IK offerings but there are UA factory presets for Pink Floyd delays reverbs and a Van Halen reverb setting as well as others and people are getting really good results with the reverb/delay presets. Here the list of factory presets updated in 2019. I guess there is no USB connectivity available to change presets or add preset parameters. only WIFI to access the preset settings, I don't like that and some people have said their WIFI died on their units. Another thing mentioned UA also is not providing software support on them any longer as well according to the recent discussion I found on forums. I don't want to buy a 1300 dollar boat anchor with no factory support either no matter how much I like the sound of it.

Looks like some are using the Suhr RL and the OX stomp for speaker emulations that are in the OX Box and the OX stomp has USB connectivity whereas the OX box unit only allows for WIFI to access the presets for mic placement, delay reverb, UA 1176 compression. Supposedly the stomp is the same software in the OX box just not as expansive.

Building off Universal Audio’s industry-defining Ox unit, the Ox Stomp Dynamic Speaker Emulator is a single-pedal solution for perfectly produced guitar tones. Simply pair the Ox Stomp with your preferred amp-in-a-box or digital amp modeler to elevate your tone with 22 masterfully emulated speaker/cab combinations, which are powered by Universal Audio’s cutting-edge Dynamic Speaker Modeling. Ox Stomp’s two 3-position mic switches allow you to pair any of its six vintage mic replications to achieve the recorded cab tone of your dreams, and you can also choose an additional mic for your Room control. No produced guitar tone is complete with a slew of effects, so Ox Stomp also boasts an extensive array of delay, compression, reverb, modulation, and EQ parameters accessible via the UAFX Control app. The 6-position rig knob ties it all together, giving you instant access to six of your favorite cab/mic/effect combinations. Whether you’re running a UAFX amp pedal or any other form of amp modeler, Ox Stomp will transform your tone with record-ready studio sonics!

Universal Audio Ox Stomp Dynamic Speaker Emulator Stereo Pedal Features:

  • Extraordinarily lifelike cabinet, microphone, and effect modeler, designed to elevate amp-in-a-box pedals and digital amplifier modeling units with perfectly produced tones
  • 22 speaker cabinet simulations, offering some of the iconic cab and speaker combos in guitar history
  • Universal Audio Dynamic Speaker Modeling captures every sonic detail and harmonic nuance of the Ox Stomp’s speaker selection, including speaker breakup, cone cry, and speaker drive
  • 6 precisely modeled vintage microphone emulations supply a studio-grade snapshot of your chosen cab
  • Up to 3 microphones emulations can be dialed in at once: Mic 1, Mic 2, and Room (your room mic selection)
  • UAFX Control app offers a wealth of effects to choose from, including UA 1176 compression, reverb, EQ (including per-mic EQ) stereo delay, mic placement options, and more
  • 6-position Rig knob grants instant access to your favorite cab/mic/effect combinations
  • Second footswitch can be configured to function as a mirror to the A footswitch, effectively giving you 6 unique rigs to choose from
  • Includes 100 expertly curated rig setups for track-ready tones right out of the box
  • Analog dry through to keep your dry signal pure when the effect is disengaged
  • Durable metal enclosure with silent switching
  • USB-C port for easy updates
  • Requires a dedicated 9V DC, center-negative, 400mA power supply (not included)

Do you know of any that work well for basic use that are reasonably priced?

Yes, the Antelope Audio Zen Go USB is selling for $300 just about everywhere now. https://www.amazon.com/Antelope-Audio-Zen-Synergy-Core/dp/B08T5HS5WF?th=1

Why is it cool? It has SPDIF in and out which like others have mentioned give you a direct digital connection between OX and interface. This is the way.

Also, the onboard pres are very useful and actually sound good. The AD/DA conversion is best in class.

Do you have a manual how I can connect uad ox with fractal for recording from my amp?

No, just reference my screenshot with the preset I made to do it.

I do recommend running your OX into the back panel of the ax three so that you can use the front panel as normal when you want to. You will notice on my preset that I bring the ox into input too for example. I actually use two and three if I want to use stereo out of the OX for the UA audio, reverbs and delays.

I mean,what input/output did you used for it?p/spdif?

I’ve never gone down that road. I just used it with the quarter inch out into the quarter inch in on the fractal.

Hell, maybe I’m doing it wrong? But it sure works great.

Spending under a grand on conversion is going to yield pretty much about all the same results, nothing significantly “better” sounding in that range. Features wise yes there can be big differences, all I can is buy more I/O than you think you’ll need. I personally use an apogee ensemble and there is quite the decent jump in quality of conversion when you get up into that range, for sure.

Here's the somewhat recent project we did via Studio One if you choose to check it out, though it was posted here before.

Most of my soundclouds demo songs are a mixture of amps via OX thru the fractal. I'm very happy with the results. (Check out my soundcloud if you want to hear amps via fractal into daw)

I enjoyed the Leppard tune! The Studio sounds like it does a great job!:2thumbsup:

I'm still on the fence with the standard OX a bit yet I don't like that it's WIFI only to connect to the preset adjustments. I don't know if the OX stomp connects via USB or WIFI and if it is exactly what's in the original OX, some videos say yes it is.

Yeah, the Wi-Fi is a bummer. I’m glad you enjoyed the tune🤙🏽

I have a iPad on my recording desk for that

I did buy a cheap boss pedal off of Amazon to turn on and off the reverbs and delays and compressionon the ox

If you set up your favorite cabinets to the rotary switch on the front, you can navigate it with the foot pedal and that rotary so you don’t have to turn anything else on tocontrol it remotely

this is converted twice, from analog to digital(amp to ox box) and then from analog to digital(ox box line out to axe-fx).It will make a delay

Thank you for the lesson, since the fractal runs at 48 Hz I don’t know if this works or not. If you know, please share.

This is awesome, I’m learning! Thank you

That used to be true.

MOTU's M2 and M4 change that IMHO and the 828es although I'm not 100% sure about the RRP of the latter.

IIRC the same convertors as the AVB range. Not to be sneezed-at.

I have the Ox and the Suhr (I keep the Suhr around cause I can load in my own IR's ) Overall I think I like the Ox a bit more , but not by much .
I wouldn't pay full price for an Ox , find a used one if you wanna go that route .The Suhr is very nice too for less then half the cost.
As far as an interface that depends what you're trying to do , what your tracking needs are..A universal audio Apollo (even just the twin) is a very elegant solution and it a great 'nucleus' for any recording rig.
As far a DAW , studio one has been mentioned and I agree it's a fantastic DAW, very intuitive and powerful ..Cubase is even MORE powerful for certain things (scoring to picture , it's midi editing ) but WAY deeper then S1 and not as intuitive..If you're just doing audio (and don't care about midi capabilities) I'd go with good ole' Pro Tools really...So far nothing has beatin' it (or matched it) for audio editing and is still the 'defacto standard' in many industries (and for good reason) If you want more full featured (good midi etc) Studio One is fantastic , I use it often .
My 2 cents , ymmv.

Hey, I would recommend the Rivera Rock Crusher recording. I have a "mini" version built into my amp head and it is absolutely amazing man. Seriously, check out Rivera.
