This about Metallica not the politics

I mentioned in another thread, I'm a big fan of Metallica. However, I have not enjoyed any of their music since 1997's Reload. St. Anger was way too different and just didn't work for me. The 2008 album was better, but there was still something missing. It was like Metallica was trying to backtrack into their older sound, but didn't know how to do it. They would have been better off just continuing down the Load/Reload sound and exploring that. I really, really wanted to like Hardwired and 72 seasons, but they just don't excite me. I can't complain too much though because I still listen to all their albums pre-1998. The Garage Inc album is also fun.
I'd say most people stopped at Black Album.

Load/Reload... part from a few songs were just as jarring as St Anger was IMO.

Yeah, the Black Album was the last one where they still retained their core sound. I thought in terms of tone, it sounded the best of any of their albums.

Btw you brought up Beatles . They played stupid pop as first . What hspoeved when they grew up ? They stopped playing meaningless pop bullshit . They even knew they had to start playing mesnimg fill deep songs because they weren’t kids anymore .
Even the Beatles new pop was iljudt for girls and kids
Is it posts like this that spawned the word kimg?

Can Taylor write a song without a G or D chord in the 1st position? Asking for a friend :geek:

$aside, James's riffs have surpassed Toni and Jimmy. Taylor's strumming is pretty much the same every song. Then she moves the capo and vocal melody and does it again Lol.!! Someone will very likely correct me, but then again I cannot name one Taylor song.
I do know she has written many songs about guys breaking up with her, but not one about her making a sammich and getting a beer for her boyfriend :hys:

Was walking the dog today and I play music on my phone. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is playing and it struck me. Holy Shit, that song is just over 50 years old and it still feels fresh to me. Was wondering, what was on the ol’ phonograph in 1923 and was anybody still loving it in 1973? I’m not sure if one of Taylor Swift’s songs will still be remembered 50 years after it was released but I definitely know Master of Puppets, Fade to Black and One will be.
There will always be a teenager who discovers Hendrix, Sabbath, Deep Purple and Zeppelin and is really turned on by it. Not sure if Poker Face by Gaga will have that effect in 5 years.
My hat is off to Swift for growing and staying near and on the top like she has, in the very fleeting world of pop.

Taylor Swift doesn't use a wah

Therefore she wins
I think that just means she's a better guitar player than Kirk.

I'd say that's a technique thing, and riffs alone don't make a song. E.g., there is awesome black metal that mostly consists of a bunch of power chords in different positions. The strumming is pretty consistent too, and the tone makes vacuum cleaners blush. Don't mistake me, I'm not saying I think Taylor writes good music (or Metallica now-a-days either..., the Black Album was a sellout album). I'm saying you don't need sophistication to write good music.
