this dude shreds

It's a fine example of what a digital wizzer will do to your tone even if you are using an ESP or a JAMES TYLER for that matter.

Sounds like the old NES game Contra raped a doorbell

Sounds like a bitcrusher and envelope filters.
I like them sometimes when done right.
This isn't the most inspiring work of Charles, though.

They sound best in someone else's signal chain.

Is rock and metal just going to get more and more, banal, soulless and anodyne until it just becomes techno with double bass?

Like yeah the sweeping/rake riff sounds interesting or different the first time you hear it, but it definitely wasn't cool enough to build an entire riff (let alone a whole song) out of

Even then it's because it's at a tempo and subdivision you aren't used to hearing, thats literally it

I mean at this point just use midi instruments, and save yourself the 10,000 hours

On the fence.
Def prefer light usage of them vs a whole song.
They're also fun and kinda feel cool under the fingers in a way.
A lot of them sound like garbage, though.

Just everything about this has no soul or aesthetic

Like the whole modern metal aesthetic is this robotic, anodyne shit

and for the love of god there's nothing to hold on to, or that emotionally resonates

except for "*yawn* yeah i guess he's good at guitar"

I seriously do not remember a single note, or chord change, or anything except for that the main riff was an obnoxious beep-boop berried alive noise

He used to be less soulless.
But you're right.
He does stuff with his wife who plays bass, but seems like they both have chased the full digital stuff nowadays.
Too bad.
