Agreed Nicko.

The best solos I've heard from Poly (IMHO) were by Jason and he absolutely ripped 'em up.

I don't get the feeling he's a Cortex kinda dude.

Specialises in neoclassical metal and has been around for quite a long time.
 
I sold him and his other guitarist a pair of ebmms a long time ago and they were great to deal with. Good to see them doing well.

Jason’s a Fractal guy.



NDSP spends more money on sending units out to famous guys hoping the common folk don’t notice all the missing features/functions in the QC than they do on programmers to fully realize the thing.
 
What a cool studio. I noticed he mentioned all the Quad Cortexes but failed to acknowledge the AxeFX sitting right there on the recording desk. Ha!

I didn’t have near his budget or set-up but I had a
Musichouse set-up with guitars & 4X12’s in labyrinth’s.
My entire living room and dining room were a ready to go with a Nord & Moog full band set-up.
A wired vocal booth outdoor in a 2 story playhouse turned ‘think tank’ turned vocal dungeon.
60 foot mural down the side of my house..,
F’n crazy RAD sculpture’s littered all amongst the property.
A bonified Artist Utopian way of living…,

Related to the topic of redefining guitar: they are tremendously talented, no doubt, but I don’t see them having the impact to redefine guitar. They have fans and are very original, but I ultimately think they have carved their place at the pinnacle of their thing, but the majority of guitar players won’t be striving for what they do. The things that are going to redefine something are going to have broad appeal and have a major influence on the players coming up. EVH qualifies as a perfect example. They are more like Vai. Virtuosity and musicians’ musicians, and are well known within a certain realm, but the influence doesn’t reach quite as far. They will definitely leave their mark, but I would guess their overall impact will be more subtle on the overall landscape.

Normally I’d agree, but the first two times I heard about Polyphia was from non-guitarists, one 19 year old chick I worked with and a dude my age (36 at the time). I was quite surprised to see how many chicks are in their audience in live vids. I think there’s just enough hip hop/EDM elements in their music that they’re picking up a lot of non-musicians. While I agree that I don’t think they’re going to change the face of guitar, I do think their influence will spur a lot of new guitarists and starting off at that level of musicianship ain’t a bad thing.

That and I’m more curious to hear Polyphia in 10 years from now as they mature. I didn’t start writing my best stuff until I hit about year 20 of playing and those dudes are just starting out in the grand scheme of a career. I’m anxiously awaiting their first non-pop/slide/tap/wiggle song.

I wouldn’t be surprised if NDSP filmed that whole video. It looks like their kinda thing. What will be interesting is how long they use them for out on the road. Pete Thorn stopped using his, Intervals stopped using their mid-tour and switched back to Fractal. I also want to see how they’re powering them because if they’re using that fuckin’ laptop charger on tour, that shit ain’t gonna last.
 
Tim Henson has the most punchable face I have ever seen -- whatever gender they choose to identify as on any given day. This tranny looks like an alien life form with no sex organs.

As far as the music, it sounds cool for about 30 seconds and then quickly realize its even worse than techno. It has no soul or conveys no human emotion. It feels like a bad trip in cyberspace that you can never escape from.
