I hear you! It was modded by Dave originally back in 2010 or so. The headshell had a fan in the side, and it was poorly packed, so of course it cracked. There’s a great local shop here that’s done tons of work for me that removed the fan, patched the hole, fixed the headshell, and restored it in orange. Could have bought a new headshell, but for the same money (less?), I got to keep the original and get an aesthetic I wanted, so that was an easy win.
After that, I sent it to Dave to add a few extra things. It’s not a straight JBE, but can do that. It has:
BE Modded w/2 Volume & Gain Knobs
Switchable Bright Cap on Each Gain Knob
Simple Clean
Depth/Thump Knob on Front
JBE by Pulling Thump Knob
HBE Switch
C45 Switch
SAT Switch
Global Master Volume on Back
FX Loop
Line Out with Level Control
So you can switch from clean to dirty, then can switch between 2 sets of gain and masters in the dirty. Each dirty channel has a pull switch to add in a bright cap.
The Depth/Thump on the left is set to BE values, or you can pull it and it swaps to JBE. Put the depth around 1:00-2:00, pull the knob, and turn on SAT and you basically have a JJ100.
The cool thing is you also have the bright caps available for a little extra, and can switch in C45. I jokingly call it JJ+ mode running the bright caps, C45, and depth pulled and set a little higher than stock
I rarely even use the extra gain stage (HBE).
